Today’s update from the TGA has confirmed what we’ve been shining a light on for 18 months now: the estradiol patch shortage in Australia isn’t easing anytime soon.

Of note Estradot 50 and 100, the two most commonly prescribed doses, now have an estimated return to normal supply of 31 December 2026. And Estraderm 50 and 100, the end of October.

If you’re one of the thousands of women relying on patches to manage menopause symptoms, you already know what this means in practice: calling pharmacy after pharmacy, switching doses on your prescriber’s advice, or going without while you wait.

When will the powers that be admit that this isn’t a supply hiccup. It’s a structural problem in how essential menopause medication gets made and distributed, and it’s been going on for years.

We’re watching this closely and will keep sharing what we learn. If your current dose is affected, talk to your prescriber about alternatives, don’t ration or go without asking for support.

PSA: Your HRT prescription might be covering half of what it could. 🧐

If you’re on Sandrena, Estrogel, or Estrogel Pro, these can potentially be written as a 60-day script instead of the standard 30-day one. Same medication, double the supply, one prescription. On the PBS.

It’s not automatic. Your GP has to specifically write it that way, and if you’ve never had one before, you’ll likely need an appointment to set it up.

Once it’s in place: fewer pharmacy runs, fewer scripts to remember, one less thing to manage.

Don’t assume yours is already set up this way. Next time you’re at the GP, ask directly:

“Can this be written as a 60-day script?”
