I don't know about you . . . but I know from personal experience that

When we're exhausted, emotionally or physically . . . or both . . . our ability to think clearly is affected. Things we might usually see become harder to recognise. Our perspective shifts, and we can struggle to see how the pieces fit together.

Do you find this to be true in your life?

When overwhelmed, caught up in emotions, or simply running on empty, it's so easy to misinterpret what someone is saying. We might hear criticism where there isn't any, feel we're being put down when someone is simply offering another perspective, or struggle to understand how someone can love us when their words and actions don't feel good in the moment.

Our perception isn't always the whole picture.

Becoming aware of what might be influencing our perception (like my lack of sleep and grieving heart) gives us an opportunity to look again, consider another perspective and perhaps see things differently (preferably after a decent sleep).

Sometimes, awareness is the first step towards understanding ourselves . . . and others . . . a little better.

October . . . Mental Health Month

I was reminded that October is Mental Health Month . . . and it got me thinking.

Mental health is just one aspect of our overall wellness . . . we're not bits and pieces put together . . . we are a whole person encompassing mental, physical, spiritual and emotional.

Soo . . . yes, it's good to have the reminder . . . but let's look at everything that impacts us as a whole person.

I'm curious:
What do you think mental health looks like ???
Do you agree with the concept of looking at the whole individual rather than only one aspect . . . such as mental health ???

Feel free to share your thoughts below in the comments section.

Sunday was one of those days that fills the cup in more ways than one.

Beautiful blue skies, warm water, good conversations in the pool while watching two hot air balloons land . . . and then an afternoon spent exploring the healing power of creativity.

I attended Heal with Art, a workshop presented by my colleague Mortezar from STEPS Coaching, in collaboration with Skandari Foundation.

A big hellow to Margaret, Donna, Jean and Sana . . . it was such a pleasure meeting you and chatting 🥰

The conversations were "chef's kiss" . . . you know the type of conversations where you just click with people, share ideas, laugh, learn something new and walk away feeling that little bit richer for having connected?

How beautiful is is when those connections bring together people from different cultures, backgrounds and life experiences . . . yet in the sharing, we discover just how much we have in common.

There is something so special about being open to people whose experiences may be different from our own . . . we learn, challenge our assumptions . . . and sometimes see the world, or ourselves a little differently.

Sometimes, living your BEST isn't about doing more, achieving more or ticking another thing off your to-do list . . . . sometimes it's about slowing down enough to notice the blue sky, being present with the people around you, doing something different, and allowing yourself to simply enjoy the moment.

It's about connection, curiosity, creativity and being open to what life brings our way.

What was something that filled YOUR cup this week / weekend?

Now that the outside pool is open for the summer season, my mornings now look different.

Morning sunshine
Morning exercise

I may have had a sh*te sleep last night . . . and may feel the desire for a nap . . . but goodness me, being here brings me so much joy.

How often do we believe we are the problem, when actually, we're carry beliefs, expectations and patterns we've picked up along the way?

This TED Talk by America Ferrera piqued my interest . . . because she's talking about identity and how we can live our lives believing we need to change something about ourself

That we're too much
Not enough
Too emotional
Too sensitive
Too opinionated
Too . . . something

So we make the effort to change
We adapt
We second-guess ourself
We become who we think we're supposed to be

And somewhere along the way, we can lose sight of who we actually are.

This is one of the reasons I LOVE Human Design as a tool for self-understanding.
Not because it tells you who to be . . . I see it as a mirror . . . a reflection of what you already know about yourself underneath all the conditioning.

Sometimes, you just need something to reflect it back to you so you can finally see it.

And perhaps . . . that's where the real exploration begins . . .

Who am I? . . and what have I been carrying?

. . . but because it gives you another lens through which to explore who you are underneath

Have you ever looked at yourself and thought . . . "This isn't really me."?

I get it.

Sometimes, after years of conditioning, expectations and learning how you "should" be . . . it's easy to forget who you actually are.

You adapt
You people-please
You overthink
You second-guess yourself
You become really good at being who everyone else needs you to be.

And somewhere along the way, you forget YOU.

I came across these six Japanese principles . . . I had heard of IKIGAI and SHINRIN-YOKU . . . but not the other five listed below . . . such beautiful reminders.

OUBAITORI
Let go of comparison and grow at your own pace . . . embracing your uniqueness.

SHINRIN-YOKU
Heal your spirit by being fully present
Put down the phone. Quiet the noise
Take a breath. Notice what's around you
Sometimes we don't need to think our way through everything . . . sometimes, we simply need to BE.

CHISOKU
Know what is enough
Find peace by focusing on what you have rather than constantly looking at what you lack . . . more isn't the answer.

SKIKATA GA NAI
It can't be helped
Act on what IS within your control and let go of the rest. (A daily practice).
Not everything needs to be fought, fixed or figured out.

KINTSUGI
Honour your wounds and grow stronger through them.
You experiences ARE part of your story . . . hiding the cracks won't help . . . filling them with gold highlights the strength taken to move through those experiences.
You are beautiful . . . cracks and all.

WABI-SABI
Find beauty in imperfection
How many women chase perfection?
It's not worth it
Keep things simple . . . as there is incredibly beauty in things that are unfinished, imperfect and real.

Maybe you don't need to become someone else
Maybe you don't need to fix yourself.

Maybe . . . it's time to remember who you are!

Reflecting on the passing of a truly beautiful human being.

A woman whose kindness touched so many hearts.

Whose compassion seemed unending
Whose wisdom was generous
Whose grace was simply part of who she was.

I feel incredibly grateful to have crossed paths with her and to have experienced some of that kindness and wisdom for myself.

She has now earned her angel wings🕊️

My heart is with those closest to her.
For those who are now left with an enormous sense of loss.
That feeling of "How do I navigate life now that she is no longer here?"

There are no easy answers to that.

And perhaps, for those who loved her, there is simply the need to allow whatever comes.

The sadness
The emptiness
The anger
The memories
The love.

Because when someone has touched our lives so deeply, the emotions that come with their absence are part of the connection too.

Perhaps we honour them by giving those feelings space
By allowing ourselves to feel the depth of what they meant to us.

Because . . . sometimes, feeling the grief is simply another expression of love.

Fly high, beautiful soul 🪽

Thank you for the kindness, wisdom, and grace you shared with the world.

You touched more hearts than you will ever know.
