Most children go through stages of being selective with food. One week strawberries are everything, the next week they apparently never liked strawberries at all 🍓
But sometimes eating difficulties have a bigger impact on nutrition, growth, family mealtimes or a child’s ability to comfortably manage different foods.
That is when we look beyond “picky eating” and explore what might be making eating difficult, including oral-motor skills, sensory responses, swallowing safety, medical factors and the child’s feeding history.
It is not about labelling a child as difficult. It is about understanding why eating feels difficult for them.
