A labour of love that’s shared across the world 🌏

Each week, residents at Murdoch Gardens Care Community come together to knit handmade blankets that accompany specially designed wheelchairs donated by Wheelchairs for Kids Australia through our relationship with Rotary Club of Wangara. Built to navigate challenging terrain and tailored to each child’s needs, these wheelchairs give children the mobility they need to fully take part in life – a cause that deeply resonates with our residents.

From knitted blankets and toys to raising funds, residents are playing an important role in bringing comfort, joy and connection to children in countries including Zambia and Indonesia.

It’s a wonderful example of how compassion, purpose and community can create a lasting impact, both close to home and across the globe. 🧶💛

A lucky gold coin. A game of trivia. A second chance at love. 🪙💜

Residents John and Frances found companionship and connection after meeting at Springwood Greens Care Community, proving that some of life’s most meaningful moments can happen when you least expect them. For John, it was love at first sight. For Frances, it was the start of a wonderful new chapter.

Shortly after Frances moved into Springwood Greens, John gifted her a lucky gold chocolate coin in a red envelope to celebrate Lunar New Year. For Frances, an avid coin collector, the thoughtful gesture was one she would never forget.

After bonding over shared interests, a shared love of education and a little friendly competition at trivia, the couple recently celebrated their relationship with a commitment ceremony surrounded by their family at our Care Community.

Their story is a beautiful reminder that love is ageless, and that it's never too late to find someone who makes you smile. 🌸

101 years of living life to the fullest 🎂

There was plenty to celebrate at Quakers Hillside Care Community as beloved resident Ian marked his 101st birthday, surrounded by family, friends and the team who care for him every day. Ian’s daughters and sisters even travelled from Queensland to celebrate the special occasion with him.

A familiar face to all at Quakers Hillside, Ian enjoys everything from word games and bus trips to pet visits, intergenerational programs and concerts – always embracing opportunities to connect and have fun.

Happy 101st birthday, Ian! Thank you for inspiring us with your positivity, curiosity and zest for life 🎉

Four years, countless memories, and one unforgettable celebration 🎂🌸

Residents, families, team members and the local community recently came together for Glenmore Park Care Community’s annual Spring Fair, which also marked its fourth anniversary.
The honour of cutting the cake went to Robin and Valerie, the very first residents to call Glenmore Park home. 💚

From live performances and stalls from residents and local creators and a delicious BBQ prepared by our chef, the day was filled with fun, connection and celebration. Together, we raised $2,500 for Mama Lana's

Community Foundation, helping provide meals for people in need across the Penrith area.

Here's to four wonderful years of Glenmore Park Care Community! 🎉

A special meal shared between Meaningful Mates ❤️

When resident Abdul moved into Chelsea Manor Care Community, his warm smile and gentle nature quickly left a lasting impression on team members Samra and Fatima. Both were eager to become his Meaningful Mate, drawn to his kindness and keen to learn more about his life, culture and experiences.

What followed was a beautiful friendship.

Whether sharing stories, discovering cultural connections or enjoying heartfelt conversations, the trio formed a special bond. For Fatima, Abdul became like a grandfather, while Samra’s regular chats with him led to a wish that would soon become a reality: a lunch outing to Abdul’s favourite local restaurant.

Through our Wishing Well and the support of his daughter Sheereen and the Chelsea Manor team, Abdul’s wish was granted as he enjoyed a wonderful day out with his two Meaningful Mates – reconnecting with familiar flavours, sharing laughs and creating new memories 🍽️

This beautiful relationship Milly and our residents at Lansdowne Gardens Care Community have formed is a wonderful example of why intergenerational friendships are good for everyone.

Sharing experiences and hearing new perspectives opens our world, whatever our age, and helps every person to be seen and valued for who they are.

For older people, maintaining their connections with their local communities and forming new friendships is central to their sense of identity, and living well.

Across Australia, intergenerational relationships are at the heart of the special place our Care Communities hold in their local communities.

Twelve months ago, Sandra came to us with reduced mobility. Today, she’s preparing to walk back home 🏡

When Sandra moved into Gawler Hillside Care Community in South Australia, she was living with chronic pain, unable to walk and fully dependent on others for her care. But through personalised care, rehabilitation, unwavering determination and the support of her family and our team, she never gave up on her goal of returning home.

Over the past year, Sandra has achieved milestone after milestone, progressing from needing full support to walking on her own around our Care Community, rebuilding not only her strength but also her confidence and sense of independence.

Now, as she prepares to return home to live with her daughter Harriet in the Adelaide Hills, Sandra reflects on what she describes as a second chance at life.

“Thanks to the unwavering support and encouragement of everyone at Gawler Hillside Care Community, I have been given the chance to live the life I always hoped for,” she says.

Sandra’s journey shows us what’s possible when care is built around what matters most to each person 💜

Did you know 1.7 million people in Australia are involved in caring for someone with dementia?

This week is Dementia Action Week.

The theme: ‘It’s time to talk about dementia’ highlights the vital importance of sharing knowledge of a condition that impacts the lives of an estimated 446,500 Australians and the 1.7 million people involved in their care.

Our free Dementia Care Connections webinars have helped more than 12,000 Australian families since 2021.

Hosted by our dementia care experts, Simon Pedzisi and Colleen Kagwere, our webinars provide practical knowledge and tools to help participants understand the experience of someone living with dementia and how they can support that person to live well.

Our webinars are free, and everyone is welcome to attend. To register for a webinar, visit our website at the link below.

Some connections leave lasting memories 💞

Resident Liz, whose remarkable career as an entertainer has spanned international stages, television and live performances, beamed with pride as she watched her former mentee, Lisa, perform at Bankstown Terrace Care Community. She even took the time to share some lovely feedback and encouragement with Lisa afterwards – a reflection of the special bond they have built over the years.

It was a heartwarming full-circle moment, celebrating great entertainment and the lasting impact of mentorship, friendship, and a shared love of music 🎶✨
