“It felt like a video. I wasn’t sure if I could trust it.”

This is the honest feedback of a who just wanted guidance, but instead, was left feeling confused and uncertain. The , meant to support their health choices, felt more like a sales pitch than genuine care.

In this episode of 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 🎙️, we tackle a pressing issue: too often, patient education videos across healthcare settings sound more like ads than authentic, helpful communication.

When jargon replaces clear, empathetic language, we don’t just lose , we lose 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁.

And in , trust isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s a necessity for positive outcomes.

Patients aren’t looking for a sales pitch.
They’re looking for 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The real difference between a helpful video and a confusing one isn’t about flashy production, it’s about 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁’𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.

Hear it firsthand from Masi G talking about her experience through her health journey

More content isn’t always the answer.
T𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗶𝘀.

At 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺, our approach to healthcare video is grounded in clinical insight and respect, not marketing goals, but patient needs and real-world complexity.

Because when patients watch your videos, they shouldn’t feel pressured.
They should feel 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱.

"𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗺𝗲. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁. 𝗠𝗲."

Masi G was mid-chemotherapy, one of the hardest sessions, when a walked in and said: "𝗢𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗚𝗼𝗱, 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀."

For the next 10–15 minutes, they talked about nothing but the dress.

And Masi forgot where she was.

In this episode of 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 ❤️, Masi shares one of the most powerful moments from her journey, not a breakthrough, not a new treatment. Just a tiny conversation that changed everything.

That nurse didn't follow a script. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱.

Because patients don't just need expertise.
They need to feel seen.

It doesn't take grand gestures. Sometimes it takes ten minutes talking about what someone's wearing.

That's the kind of care that stays with people long after the ends.

💬 What small moment of human connection made a difference in your healthcare experience?

Culture, Therapy and the Meaning Behind “Yes”

In Episode 4 of The Language Of Care, Ibram Kamil, Manager at National Care Providers, reflects on one of the more nuanced challenges in culturally responsive care, recognising when a patient or family may agree out of politeness, respect, or uncertainty, rather than genuine .

Drawing on his own experience and background, Ibram explains how extends beyond words. Tone, body language, and cultural context can all influence what is really being expressed.

For some people, saying "𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄" or asking for clarification may feel uncomfortable, or even be seen as a sign of weakness.

These moments cannot always be taught through textbooks. They develop through experience, cultural awareness, and taking the time to truly listen.

Understanding begins when we look beyond the words.

The full conversation will be published soon. Stay tuned for more insights from Episode 4 of The Language Of Care.

Some projects are about more than creating a video.

A few weeks ago, I shared The Refinery 24 and asked for your . Seeing it all come together was something pretty special.

Over 24 hours, an incredible group of people took on a non-stop treadmill relay, covering 207.92km and raising more than $25,000.

Being able to capture the and tell its story was a privilege. It’s a reminder that filmmaking isn’t just about producing content, it’s about documenting moments that inspire people, bring communities together, and help shine a light on causes that deserve attention.

A huge congratulations to everyone who organised the event, ran, volunteered, donated, and cheered from the sidelines. The energy and commitment from everyone involved made this an unforgettable experience.
The funds raised will support Make Bullying History and the important work they do.

Bullying affects far more than the moment it happens, it can have a lasting impact on mental health and wellbeing. Every conversation started, every dollar raised, and every person who showed up helps build a stronger, more supportive community.

Here’s the highlight film from an incredible 24 hours.

Many Thanks to: Dr Michelle Byrne THE REFINERY Nathaniel Merlino

It looks like a that chooses to run together, so others don't have to walk alone.

Last weekend, I had the privilege of filming and photographing The Refinery 24, a 24-hour treadmill relay in The Hills, Sydney. One treadmill. Running continuously from 12pm Saturday to 12pm Sunday, without stopping.

Community doesn't begin at the top. It begins with individuals. Kids. Parents. Business owners. Athletes. Local leaders stepping off the podium and onto the treadmill.

Craig Alexander, and World Champion, ran.
Dr Michelle Byrne, of The Hills Shire, ran.
Deputy Mayor Frank De Masi ran.
Coach Nathan Merlino, Founder of The Refinery Studio, ran.
Brett Murray, professional speaker and driving force behind Make Bullying History, ran.
Mums ran. Dads ran, Groups of friends ran, and so did dozens of others. Every background. Every level.

Together, they ran about 210 km and raised $25,000 in 24 hours.

Proceeds went to the Make Bullying History Foundation, dedicated to eradicating bullying through evidence-based programmes in , , and communities, and to direct financial support for Nadia Forwood, a long-standing studio member who lost her husband last year and is now navigating cancer treatment while raising two young children.

This is what and look like in practice. This is what means.
