Somewhere, somehow, we have confused being patient with being emotionless – no anger, no irritation, no frustration, no resentment … nothing.

But patience isn't the absence of difficult feelings. People who display patience feel the irritation, feel the spike of anger, and feel the urge to snap. They also pause to choose what comes next.

That combination of FEELING, PAUSING and CHOOSING is patience in action.

Thankfully, we don’t need a calm mind or body to be patient. We just need to slow down to notice the storm brewing inside us, take a breath, and pick a response that aligns with who we want to be ✨

📸 Patience isn’t about feeling numb when faced with a reality we didn’t choose

If you told my younger self that Mum and I would spend afternoons together barely saying a word, I wouldn't have believed you. Mum was a first class 'yacker', and I don't mind a chat myself!

Mum doesn't say much these days. On a recent visit to the nursing home, I joined her in a watercolour painting activity. And in the quiet movement of paint on paper, something lovely happened: the feeling of closeness was completely there and intact.

Life naturally alters how we do things. Illness, aging, or busy seasons can close off our old routines. But if we look beneath the habit, the underlying value - connection, presence, care - can always find a new way to express itself.

We don't need things to look exactly like they used to in order for them to be meaningful today. ❤

In marathon running, there’s a golden rule: If you try to win the race in the first 5 to 10 km, you won't finish it.

A lot of us treat life exactly the same way. We push too hard to achieve results and punish ourselves when our pace slows down. But exhaustion isn't a badge of honour, and speed is meaningless if you're headed flat out in the wrong direction.

When I'm out running and my legs start getting heavy, I have a little mantra - "it's the direction I move in, not the speed, that matters".

It applies everywhere in our life.

Progress isn't measured in kilometres - it's measured in millimetres.
• One small boundary.
• One deep breath.
• One micro-step toward what actually matters to you today.

Slow down. Keep the direction. 🌸

Friday pause ☕️

As we slide into the weekend, take 30 seconds to ask yourself:

❓ Who or what has been receiving my precious time and energy lately?

❓Are these the things that matter most?

If things are bit out of alignment, no need to judge yourself or plan drastic change. Just notice.

Is there a small 'course correction' you could make over the next couple of days - a kind pivot towards what matters?

Take gentle care of yourself this weekend. ❤️

We all have people in our lives that we think of as "strong".

People who seem to process life's heavy hits with quiet composure, carry mountains of responsibility without complaint, and hold down the fort as though it costs them nothing.

But don't be fooled.

"Strong" people are human too. They get scared, overwhelmed, sad, and exhausted, just like everyone else. Often, they've just learned to carry heavy things quietly.

When you're seen as resilient, people stop asking if you're okay. They assume you've got it handled. They might even tell you how "lucky" you are to be able to cope SO well with SO much.

But being "strong" isn't always lucky. Sometimes it's just lonely.

If someone popped into your head while reading this, reach out to them today. Just check in. ❤

Because even "strong" people shouldn't have to carry everything alone. 🌸

While setting boundaries gets a lot of attention, receiving them is where the real relational work happens.

To put it simply, it makes no sense to skilfully build our own fences if we are only going to charge through everyone else’s.

Next time someone sets a limit or expresses a boundary with you, remember:
• You don't need to fully understand it to honour it
• You don't need to agree with it to respect their autonomy
• Responding with coldness or withdrawal isn't preserving connection - it’s protecting your own ego.

Healthy adult relationships aren't a one-way street. They thrive when we give others the same grace and space we expect for ourselves. 🌸

Yesterday my husband and I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating the launch of my dear friend Vincent’s new book, "Your Writer’s Block is Bu****it".

Vincent is also a skilled ACT therapist. Having had the privilege of working with him in a previous role, I know firsthand how deeply he understands human nature and how he brings incredible compassion, wisdom, and a razor-sharp wit to everything he does.

Don’t let the title fool you - while it’s a brilliant read for creatives, it’s not just for writers. This book is a powerful, practical guide for anyone who feels stuck or paralysed from moving forward in important directions because of tricky internal stuff.

If you’ve been feeling held back by your own mind lately, do yourself a favour and look out for a copy in your local bookshop or online. Huge congratulations my wonderful friend! 📚✨

If you are carrying a heavy load at the moment – this is one of my favourites. A gentle reminder to the nervous system that it’s ok to put things down for a while.

• Find a Chair. Any chair will do. Walk over and drop into it.
• Stop "Sitting." Just Be Sat. Release the effort of holding yourself upright. Let the chair do 100% of the heavy lifting.
• Surrender the Weight. Physical body, mental load, work and family demands - hand it all over to the frame beneath you. It’s strong enough to take it.
• Loosen up. Drop your shoulders away from your ears. Unhinge your jaw. Soften your belly.
• Breathe. Inhale deep, exhale long.

You are allowed to pause. The World can wait while you allow yourself to be held. 🌸

Life is unpredictable - it can shift in a blink.

As raw and unsettling as sudden change is, it also brings a ruthless kind of gift - total clarity. It forces us to focus our attention and to simplify.

If your life has suddenly changed in a way you never expected or asked for:
• Allow yourself to wobble. You don't have to have it all figured out today.
• Focus on what is directly in front of you. Take it one hour, or one step, at a time.
• Build around what is genuine. Hold tight to the people and values that actually matter.
• Let the rest fade into the background. Strip away the noise that doesn't serve you right now.

Give yourself permission to slow down, breathe, and ground. You don't need to take charge of the rest of your life today - just the very next step. 🌸
