My Menopause Manifesto
Today I became a Crone. Nothing happened on the outside, but I had a moment where I decided that I would embrace the second half of my life with gusto! I am now what I have always wanted to be -a woman who has been shaped by her experiences – all of them – good and bad- and I am taking the growth I have received from my life, all the lessons, and using that to not only fulfil my life but enrich those around me.
I have entered into the Matriarchal realm that all women must enter into, if they live long enough. I want to be an active part of this new gathering of women I have been accepted into, simply because I exist. There are no qualifications I had to get, no courses I had to complete, no one I had to impress; I get to join because I am me. Just for today (and until my death), I am enough. I am now forevermore, joined with all women through the ages that have also reached this milestone in their lives. I join with them to pass on what I have gained and what has so lovingly been handed to me.
I embrace the Crone. I have learnt that crone is another word for crown, the time after the maiden and mother. It is now the time to step into the crowning glory of the collective wisdom of the ages. I dedicate the rest of my days to making a difference where and when I can, to whoever needs it. I reject, wholeheartedly, those who may look at me and see decline. I am not played out, far from it – I am just getting started!!
My favourite sayings
Serenity is the space between the impulse and the action
I may not be perfect, but I am excellent
If I don’t change direction, I will end up where I’m headed
Fall down 7 times, get up 8
I am not what people call me – I am what I answer to
I hope you can celebrate your own transition, or support someone around you who is growing through this most important life stage
