Did you know? ๐ซ๐
Extra-virgin olive oil contains a natural compound called oleocanthal, and it behaves a lot like ibuprofen (a common anti-inflammatory medication) in the lab.
โจ WHAT THE SCIENCE SAYS
๐ฌ Researchers found that oleocanthal blocks the same inflammation enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) as ibuprofen (Nature, 2005).
๐ถ๏ธ That peppery kick at the back of your throat from a good EVOO? Thatโs oleocanthal at work.
๐ง A large Harvard study of over 92,000 adults followed for 28 years linked regular olive oil intake to a lower risk of dementia-related death (JAMA Network Open, 2024). It was an observational study, so it shows an association, not proof of cause.
โค๏ธ The Heart Foundation lists olive oil as a source of healthy monounsaturated fats, which support heart health.
๐ฅ EASY WAYS TO ENJOY IT
Drizzle over salads, roasted veg and soups, dip with wholegrain bread, or finish your favourite dishes with a splash.
