Instead of ghosts there are medical model diagnostic assessments that don’t capture a person’s strengths.

Instead of skeletons there are goals being set that are not meaningful to the person.

Instead of zombies there is compliance based therapy that does not honour a person’s needs and right to autonomy.

Instead of witches there are labels like Oppositional Defiant Disorder being used without understanding that it’s a trauma response & change will happen when the people around the child change what they are doing.

Instead of werewolves there are stereotypical ideas about autism that cause delays in a person accessing their identity.

Instead of vampires there is therapy that only focuses on building very specific skills, rather than developing self-advocacy as the most important ‘skill.’

Instead of spiders there are professionals and families trying to learn about autism from non-autistic ‘experts.’

Instead of Frankenstein it’s a room of professionals who are not screening for symptoms of Dysfunctional Breathing and Sleep Disordered Breathing.

Consider this your invitation to find your people. 💙

Parenting can be lonely. Parenting a sensitive, neurodivergent or disabled child can feel especially isolating.

Sometimes you just need to be around people who understand. People you don’t have to explain everything to. People who get it.

That’s why we created Spot’s Parent & Carer Coffee Mornings.

No agenda. No expectations. No pressure to share anything.

Just an opportunity to connect with others who understand your world.

We meet on the last Friday of every month at Spot Therapy Hub in Randwick, from 9–10:30am.

And if you’re not local, we’d still love to connect with you through our virtual parent and carer community.

Because you deserve connection, community and a sense of belonging, too.

Come as you are. Everyone is welcome.

Somewhere along the way, we started convincing parents that the experts know their babies better than they do.

That there’s a program for sleep, a protocol for feeding and a product to solve just about every parenting challenge.

But no program, protocol or product can replace the value of getting to know your own baby.

Their cues. Their preferences. Their sensitivities. Their unique ways of communicating, connecting and experiencing the world.

And for parents of sensitive, neurodivergent or disabled babies, trusting those observations can be particularly important.

The differences you notice might be telling you something worth exploring, even when they don’t fit neatly into developmental checklists or conventional parenting advice.

Of course, professional expertise has its place. But any expert worth listening to should be helping you become more attuned to your baby, not more dependent on their advice.

The goal isn’t to become an expert in someone else’s parenting method. It’s to become an expert in understanding your own child.

Today is World Mental Health Day. 💚

Mental health isn't only about how we feel. It's also about how we sleep, communicate, regulate, learn and get through the day. For many neurodivergent kids and adults, everyday life can take more energy than others can see. 🧠

A few reminders for today:
💛 Struggling doesn't mean you're failing
💛 Big feelings are information, not "bad behaviour"
💛 Rest is not a reward, it's a need
💛 Asking for support is a strength

At Spot Therapy Hub, our Sydney team of Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists and Support Workers is here to support wellbeing through regulation skills, communication, routines and everyday confidence, with care built around you and your family.

Take a moment for yourself today. Check in on someone you love. 🫶

📩 If you'd like to talk about support, enquire through the link in our bio.

If you or someone you know needs urgent support, Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 and Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.

Happy OT Week to our incredible Occupational Therapists! 💙
We asked our OTs at Randwick to show us their favourite item or space in the clinic… and of course, everyone had something different to share! 👀

From sensory equipment to favourite therapy spaces, there’s always a reason behind what we do (even when it looks like we’re just playing!).

A little peek into the spaces and tools our OTs love using to help our clients learn, grow and flourish.
OTs, what’s your favourite therapy tool? 👇

At Spot Therapy Hub, our Support Workers help people build independence and confidence in everyday life. That can look like:
🌟 Helping with daily routines and life skills
🌟 Practising goals from therapy in real-world settings
🌟 Supporting community access and social participation
🌟 Building confidence, one small step at a time
🌟 Being a consistent, friendly face who gets to know you

The best Support Workers don't just "do things for" someone. They work alongside them, so each person can do more for themselves, in their own way and at their own pace.

Our Sydney team works closely with our Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists, so support is connected and built around what matters to you or your child.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE of The Spot Life Podcast | Carer Self-Care and Navigating the NDIS

You can’t keep pouring from an empty cup. But what happens when caring for someone leaves you no capacity to refill it?

In Episode 34, Kate Broderick is joined by Jen Nathan, founder of ASISTA, to talk about caring, the overwhelm many carers experience when navigating the NDIS, and why carer self-care is a necessity.

They discuss the importance of understanding the way NDIS works, language that aligns with communicating functional capacity and needs, the way good intentioned providers may still cause stress and the lasting impact negative provider experiences can have on families who don’t know who to turn to.

Kate and Jen highlight their different professional perspectives (scope and boundaries), while both emphasising authenticity, use of self and lived experience as foundations for care.

🎧 Episode 34 is out now! Search The Spot Life Podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

☕ Sydney locals: Catch up with Kate and Jen in person at our next FREE Parent & Carer Coffee Morning at Spot Therapy Hub, Randwick, on Friday 30 October, 9–10.30am

A day of learning, connection and plenty of great conversations at Greta Preschool! 💙

We spent the day with their wonderful team exploring what’s behind children’s behaviours, understanding different brain types and practical ways to support every child to flourish.
With the transition to Kindy just around the corner for many little learners, we focused on building confidence, connection and inclusive environments where every child feels understood and supported.

Thank you, Greta Preschool, for welcoming us! 💙

Thinking about an assessment for next year?
Term 4 is the time to start, not January. 📅

Here's why starting now can make a difference:
✅ Assessments and reports can take time, and January gets busy fast
✅ You can go into the new school year with a clearer picture of your child's needs
✅ Teachers, therapists and family can be on the same page from Day 1
✅ Less scrambling, more confidence when Term 1 begins

Whether you're wondering about your child's communication, sensory needs, motor skills, or how they're coping day to day, an assessment can give you answers and a practical plan for what comes next. 💛

At Spot Therapy Hub, our Sydney team of Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists is here to support you through it, with no pressure and no jargon.

📩 Enquire through the link in our bio to start the conversation.
