How do celestial movements affect our SOMA?

SOMASCOPES : Part 1
The moon and closer planets have a quicker i@pact and show up in us daily and monthly, they may be easier to relate to and feel.

How does it affect you?

We are linked to everything in this universe, our ancestors knew it, worked aligned to it. The human species disconnection from the Earth and its life is something we need to address as a collective. The Earth, like our bodies, is not something to extract from and control, it’s to experience.

Information taken and inspired by Ancient knowledge and my own lived experience and sessions working with people and our SOMA as a Somatic Trauma Therapist | Somatic Healing, our bones are made of the same stuff as the Earth and Stars. We need to remember that.

It’s hands down so much more important to me to build capacity for your nervous system to feel what it has been bracing against all these years, than to chuck you into a nervous system reaction for the likes.

Somatic healing is what our body does naturally to process emotions and trauma. We get trauma symptoms - anxiety, depression, chronic pain, the inability to rest - when obstructions stop this natural cycle.

It can look great for socials, and for us humans witnessing, people shaking and wailing to “release” but there is usually so much more to nervous system healing than the shakes and wails. It’s part of it but not the complete cycle.

So yes. Shakes, wails, tears and much more may happen in the room, but that isn’t where my work lies. It isn’t where integration happens, integration happens in the slow realisation that you are now safe. If that is even the case.

I’m here if you’re ready to embark on that journey.

People always ask what happens in Somatic Sessions, it’s all about reliving through our receptors and bringing in what they cause us to relive in our bodies.

We work with different somatic exercises and techniques to help our bodies process what may come up in this “reliving”

We bring in new experiences around what your body has carried as somatic memories to survive, we give it a new option and experience. We find closure and integrate new memories.

Tell me, how is it to be in your body and experience this life?

The scariest thing can be when we start to feel what we have been pushing away for so long. Somatic Therapy is all about building capacity to FEEL.

Think of what you may be missing out of. Learning to sit with the stuff that spooks you is the key to your healing. I’m here to bring curiosity into what your body needs to feel supported to go there.

Somatic theory makes sense when we view the body as something experiencing. It doesn’t determine the difference between emotional and physical feeling, the mind does. Therefore, what our body associates with the physical attributes of our body parts, it also associates the emotional attributes with them.

The legs physically for instance, carry us from A to B. The get us where we need to go. We stand our ground with them. They provide stability. Emotionally when we feel stuck in a situation, wether that be in a relationship, emotionally stuck or in our career, this can show up as pain or tension in the legs. Progression and regression can show up in our knees and ankles and if we have a resistance to either. Resistance to change through fear or other.

What is your tension asking you for?

This most frequent questions I am asked is “What will one somatic session do?” and “What does a somatic session look like?”

I’ve written out a guideline to what you can hope to expect from our sessions together, there is no right or wrong in Somatic Healing…there is only being, and accepting that is a huge thing to even come over in its self.

Somatic Healing, your bodies natural ability to process emotions and stress, happens in a supportive environment, under supportive conditions but even then who are we to say what feels supportive to your nervous system?

We live in an instant fix world, and if we don’t see results quickly we move on. For some nervous systems who are guarding, bracing, in fight/flight, we cannot just tell ourselves we are ready to relax, process and heal, we need to FEEL it.

This is why one session can feel very different for one person to another. I watch peoples bodies react under my presence and sometimes the person is not ready for it, so I pull them back, sometimes going somewhere too fast will cause you to retreat, cause me to feel untrustworthy. Who am I to say what I am doing is trustworthy in a world where you have had to distrust to survive.

This is key. It’s why I always say awareness is the first step, we cannot change what we do not know. This is what happens in the room. This is what I am there to mirror, to bring enquiry to, and also to hold you when you do enter patterns, triggers and other emotions.

Because humans learn from experience, not from advice or being told, and your nervous systems is a part of you, it is the same.

We give your nervous system other experiences, options, rewrite patterns and blueprints held from even pre memory or passed down for our lineage.

So when I’m asked what a session can look like, this is what I want to say. How does it feel being you? Let’s start there.

A TedTalk of me ranting at the performative “normal” society that we have created that is SO unnatural for our bodies that existing on our own planet feels alien to us.

It’s not just me is it? It’s actually not you either, you’re not an alien. Your living in a society that makes you feel like that…or maybe you are 👽

Welcome to a Somatic therapist having a rant about how unnatural it is to live in society we have created for our nervous systems.

We are the universe. We are the planets. We belong on this Earth as we are part of it, what we have created as the normal makes us feel like this.

Why? Because our mind can witness physical healing, we see what is causing us pain, we watch it get patched up, then we allow the body to do what it does, heal.

When it’s an emotional wound it’s a bit more complex, we cannot see why we are hurting, it’s usually a wound from even pre-memory. When we are triggered it is poking at this unhealed wound, but our mind cannot find logic or find the “danger” in our immediate environment, se we stay in this heightened state. Ready for action, caught in an active stress cycle that cannot find closure so cannot complete.

This is what somatic therapy works with, these activations.

We also call emotional healing techniques that are not ticked off by the Western Mental health industry as “alternative” …but alternative to what? The eye rolls come in when medical science has not yet done clinical studies on emotional healing techniques, but these techniques have been used for THOUSANDS of years, with thousands of years lived experience. It’s rooted in colonialism. Medical science has been based off dead bodies, bodies without energy flow, it’s now changing, because we have the machines and technology. It was recently proven that Reiki is real 🫠 no s**t Sherlock, if you’ve ever had a reiki session you know. Medical science research is now proving what bodyworkers have know for centuries.

With all that in the mix it’s also scary sometimes when we experience something that feels strange, or even outwith our control. But usually this is where the healing lies, in the complexity of the things we call weird.

I mean if you need it there is science to Somatic Therapy, I could point you in the direction of the research papers…but Somatic Healing, that’s a lived experience, and way beyond our modern way of livings ability to understand when we are so disconnected from self, nature and the cycles of life. This is what we bring into the room. This is the unlearning we need for change.
