Today is World Mental Health Day 🤍

Our days and nights can be filled with things that need our attention, work, responsibilities, other people, tasks and even the shift that hasn’t started yet.

In the middle of it all, it’s easy to move from one thing to the next without really taking in the moment we are in.

To notice what is around us. The small things. The moments that might perhaps pass us by.

At The Calm Collab I explore meditation, sound-based practices and practical ways to create space to pause and reconnect with the present moment, particularly for those navigating the demands of high-pressure work.

What is one little thing you have noticed recently that made you stop and take in the moment?

🤍 World Mental Health Day is a reminder that support can look different for everyone. If you or someone you know needs support, reaching out to a qualified professional is an important step. Some options may include:

Lifeline - 131114
Beyond Blue - 1300224636
In an emergency - 000

What I wish I understood earlier in my healthcare career (which The Calm Collab is now advocating for)…

When you are used to working in high pressure environments, it can be easy to become accustomed to the pace, the pressure and the responsibility of the role.

You keep going, adapt, focus on the task, the priorities and whats next before it even occurs.

I did exactly that.

I focused on my patients, my crewmates, my colleagues and my students.

I continued showing up, got on with the job and always strived to go above and beyond.

But somewhere along my career, I became so used to putting everything else first that I didn’t consider what I… the person behind the role, needed.

From my personal experience, things began to change when I started finding ways to look after my own wellbeing. Over the years, this became meditation and sound-based practices.

Reflecting back, I wish I’d understood the importance of this sooner.

If you work in healthcare, emergency services, first responder roles, volunteer roles or any other high-pressure role, The Calm Collab has been created for you, the person behind the role.

What is something you wish you understood earlier in your career?

Many high pressure roles (in particular in the healthcare industry), involves care and compassion towards others, but what about ourselves?

Last night after a loving-kindness meditation session, I realised how easily we extend this kindness to others, but don’t always offer the same kindness or goodwill to ourselves.

For healthcare professionals, what does this look like for you? Do you provide yourself with the same level of care and compassion that you give to your patients?

Loving-kindness meditation is one way of practising this.

A Calm Collab session is designed for you and what you need from the session (or sessions). This may include reflection, practical tools/resources, a particular meditation practice or sound based practices.

Theses sessions are not designed to add more to your to-do list, but to find approaches that are relevant and practical for you.

What would you like from a session? An opportunity for some quiet time, practical tools and resources (to use in or out of the session), meditation, sound or a combination?

A paramedic recently asked me, ‘what is different about your sessions vs a general sound bath?’

This is a valid question and one that is worth answering in more detail.

A general sound bath (and specifically a public one), is often designed for relaxation. While that may be valuable for some people, what I offer differs to this.

My sessions are built specifically for nervous systems that have been exposed to shift work, high-stakes decision making, high-pressure and high-demands. This often requires a different level of support, care and focus during the sessions (both face to face and online).

My sessions are designed with an evidence and trauma informed approach, alongside a direct insight into high-pressure roles (from past experiences) and a different skill set/focus from general/public sound baths.

Some of the key elements of my sessions focus on pacing, sounds used, language used, autonomy, safety, and a focus on settling the nervous system rather then inadvertently overwhelming it.

If you work (or have previously worked) in a high pressure role and have ever wondered why a relaxing experience left you feeling more unsettled, this may be why.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions that you would like answering before choosing a session.

I have been there. The long shifts, the shift work, the missed breaks, the busy days and nights, the long commutes, the high risk environments, the demands of the job, the diet changes, the regular overtime shifts, AND the continued pressure I put on myself to just ‘keep going’.

I normalised it all and actually began to feel that pushing through was the right thing to do.

But along the way, I also learnt the importance and value of slowing down, listening to my body and my nervous system, and making time/space for myself.

For me, meditation and sound-based practices became my way to pause and to find balance among the demands of my career and roles.

This understanding and these experiences are the reason why I created The Calm Collab. To make wellbeing support feel more approachable, accessible, practical, meaningful and most importantly, something that can be incorporated into the realities of working in high-pressure roles.

If you work in healthcare, emergency services, first responder roles or high-pressure roles, these sessions/resources have been designed with you in mind.

Im currently opening a small number of 1:1 sessions (face to face in Sydney or online), with evening and weekend availability.

Spaces are beginning to fill, but I would love to make space for you too.

Mindfulness does not have to be something you use or turn to when things become overwhelming. It can be a regular opportunity to pause, to notice what is happening and to create a little more space.

For first responders, healthcare professionals, emergency services or those in high-pressure roles, at times, finding that space may be a little more challenging.

To support World Mindfulness Day, not only just for yesterday, but ongoing, I am opening bookings for a 4 week 1:1 online mindfulness program.

Over 4 weeks, we will meet weekly online for personalised sessions designed to help you develop a mindfulness practice that feels realistic and aligns with your everyday life, shift work or work.

4 weekly 1:1 online sessions
Evening + weekend availability
Online | Personalised | Supportive | Confidential

You do not need to wait until you are struggling to start making space for your wellbeing.

Bookings are now open.
