On our next episode of Members in Action we have one of our OG members - Adam, who has recently qualified for the open men's Australian body surfing team!!! 🌊👏🏼
Below is an inspiring story of Adams journey through his injury, surgery and recovery to get him back to competing at the highest level.
"I’d had some success in competitive body surfing in the years leading up to this. Really started to apply my lifelong history of surfing and teenage swimming training.
In 2023 I had a nasty case of frozen shoulder, I injured it doing a huge jack hammering job, and then just kept working it to finish the massive landscaping jobs around the house until my body just said no more and created the worst case of frozen shoulder the sport med specialist had ever seen.
In December I had surgery with Ken Cutbush. Then the mist of pain and recovery really began. It broke me at points, transforming me into a sobbing mess".
"In 2026, some qualifying events came up and I reset my goal to make the Australian team. I trained 2-3 times a week, either in the gym doing Matt’s program, or in the ocean if there were waves. Did everything go exactly to plan? No, but I set lofty short term goals, always setting them one or two levels above where I needed to be. Even to the point where I didn’t really celebrate making the team as I set my goal one heat further than I needed to achieve to make the team. Kind of tricking myself to not take the foot off the gas so to speak".
"I’m pretty excited to see how I can improve over the next 12 months, hopefully I can use the fact I have between 10-30 years more experience than the rest of the competitors in the open men’s world championships".
We would like to wish Adam a huge congratulations from the team here at Base Health Noosa for not only his achievements but also showing and inspiring others that setbacks and injuries are not the end of the journey. Nothing is impossible 👏🏼
