🌸 WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK — DAY 5 🌸
🦴 STRONG WOMEN, STRONG BONES
For our final day of Women’s Health Week, we’re talking about something that’s easy to overlook until it’s too late — bone and muscle health.
As women approach perimenopause and menopause, changes in oestrogen can increase the rate of bone loss. The good news? There’s plenty we can do to support strong bones and muscles throughout life. 💪🦴
✅ YOUR STRONG BONES CHECKLIST
☐ Do you do resistance training?
Weights and strength exercises help maintain muscle and stimulate your bones.
☐ Do you get enough weight-bearing exercise?
Walking, dancing, jogging, stairs and other weight-bearing activities can help support bone health.
☐ Are you getting enough calcium? 🥛
Calcium is important for maintaining strong bones — preferably from a balanced diet.
☐ Are you getting enough Vitamin D? ☀️
Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and is important for bone health.
☐ Are you maintaining your muscle strength? 💪
Strong muscles help with balance, mobility and reducing your risk of falls as you get older.
☐ Do you know your osteoporosis risk?
Family history, menopause, low body weight, smoking, excess alcohol and some medicines can increase risk.
☐ Have you had a bone health conversation?
If you’re approaching or going through menopause, it may be worth talking to your GP or pharmacist about your individual risk.
