When a Tai Chi student goes from feeling unsteady and anxious about movement to feeling calm, grounded, and confident in their body, the change in how they carry themselves through daily life is profound. Confidence itself improves balance. However, there is a lot of surprising science behind why we lose our balance as we age and how the ancient practice of Tai Chi is helping thousands of Australians stay on their feet. Please read the article here - https://www.jinli.com.au/blog/could-tai-chi-be-the-best-thing-you-ever-do-for-your-balance-

Last Saturday, Studio 14’s Chinese vintage reception area was once again transformed into a warm and glittering winter escape as the JinLi crowd gathered for this year’s Winter Soiree. While winter colds and flus prevented many from attending, more than 40 guests arrived dressed with a hint of red or gold, filling the room with laughter, and a shared love of Tai Chi and Qigong. Smooth jazz drifted through the evening, the canapés were too good to refuse, and conversations flowed as beautifully as the ch*****ne.
We may not have stayed quite as late this time, but the night had every bit of the sparkle, warmth, and connection that makes this gathering so special. A beautiful evening, a beautiful crowd, and a perfect reminder of why we all train together every week.

What a wonderful Monday night class at Studio 14! We were so honoured to welcome Madam Kit Chan-Wong and Sifu Raymond Lee, who shared their incredible knowledge so freely. Sifu Lee shared some special insights into gaining more power in our Taijiquan, along with practical tips for better back stability and knee health. The class absolutely loved the experience, and we can’t wait for Sifu Raymond Lee to be back in Melbourne again. We’re also hoping we can persuade Madam Kit to join us again in the future as her wisdom and expertise are truly unsurpassed.

Another inspiring workshop with Sifu James Gao. We did lots of training on the three- dimensional rotational dynamics of the waist and the power we gained from it. A big focus was staying sōng—released without collapsing—so the body could remain connected and responsive. This led to us thinking even more deeply about our traditional Yang-style form work and the beginnings of free push hands. By the end of the day our heads were full, our bodies had plenty to process, and we came away with a lot to study and practise before Sifu Gao returns to Melbourne.
In the meantime, we’ll be meeting to practise and share traditional Yang-style taijiquan and push hands with anyone who would like to join us. We get together on the 3rd Sunday of each month at Studio 14 in St Kilda—whether you’re experienced, curious, or simply keen to learn more, you’re very welcome.

What is this 武 (Wǔ) symbol and why is it so important to anyone practising the Chinese Martial Arts? Many of us have seen it on our weapons, clothing, in our training halls, in articles, at competitions, in fact just about everywhere. For some of us, we know the direct translation is "Martial" or "Military" but it's significance runs far deeper than the translation. This character embraces the philosophy that underpins all that is important in our arts and our lives. Yang Taijiquan - From Form to Push Hands - Workshop Seven - Sunday 7th June 2026
If you are looking for more in depth Taijiquan training, then this workshop is the best gift you could give yourself.
It’s the first time this series of workshops has ever been conducted, and is the perfect opportunity to learn from someone with lineage back to both Yang Chengfu and Yang Ban Hou. Sifu James Gao will give you in-depth training in a few movements of the Yang Style Traditional 8-5 Form, adding to it with each workshop. Every aspect of the form will be studied in detail, and each movement will be drilled to ensure the body and mind are working as one. The knowledge gained at each session will then be applied to developing Push Hands skills.
PLEASE DON'T WORRY IF YOU MISSED THE OTHER WORKSHOPS. THE CONTENT WILL BE REVIEWED.

We love teaching Ba Duan Jin Health Qigong to all our students as it offers a rare combination of accessibility, depth, and measurable impact on whole body health. It’s gentle enough for beginners, yet profound enough to shift long standing patterns of tension, stress, and system imbalance. For many students, they find it becomes a foundational practice once they see the changes it produces in their mental and physical health. Please follow the link to find more reasons why you should practice Ba Duan Jin https://www.jinli.com.au/blog/why-we-teach-ba-duan-jin-health-qigong
