Steady is essentially the kiddies’ Balance.
It was created as part of the dōTERRA Kids Collection: already diluted, gentle to apply and designed to help children feel grounded, calm and emotionally secure.
Think
🤯big feelings and meltdowns
😥first-day or separation wobbles
😳before school, exams or performances
😵💫overstimulation after a busy day
🤪difficulty transitioning from one activity to another
😞 settling after conflict or disappointment
🥱 bedtime when the body is tired but the nervous system is still busy
Roll it onto wrists, the back of the neck, over the heart or onto the soles of the feet, then invite them to take a few slow breaths.
Let’s dive into the oils of Steady 👇🏽
🪵 Amyris — the anchor
Often called West Indian sandalwood, although it is not a true sandalwood.
Amyris is rich in heavier, slow-evaporating sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpene alcohols. Its deep woody aroma creates a sense of stillness and containment.
Therapeutically, it’s used for 👇🏽
emotional grounding
restlessness and overstimulation
helping a child feel less scattered
slowing the transition from high activity into rest
providing a warm, reassuring aromatic “base”
Its grounding role is based primarily on its aromatic profile and chemistry
🌲 Balsam Fir — the forest reset
Balsam Fir contains aromatic compounds including β-pinene, α-pinene, δ-3-carene and bornyl acetate. These give it that fresh, spacious, outdoorsy aroma.
Therapeutically, it brings 👇🏽
a sense of openness when emotions feel tight
an aromatic invitation to take a deeper breath
freshness after sensory overload
grounding without making the blend feel heavy
a “back into the body” forest quality
Some fir constituents have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity in laboratory studies. Balsam Fir’s most relevant role is aromatic: space, breath and reset.
🌿 Coriander — the regulator
Coriander seed oil is typically rich in linalool—the same constituent strongly associated with Lavender’s calming aromatic character.
Its therapeutic personality is warm, regulating and reassuring rather than sleepy.
I associate Coriander with 👇🏽
nervous tension
irritability and emotional edginess
difficulty settling after stimulation
anxious anticipation
supporting calm while maintaining clarity
restoring a feeling of internal steadiness
Coriander and linalool have shown anxiolytic-like, sedative and anticonvulsant effects in preclinical research.
💮Magnolia — the comfort
Magnolia flower oil is also especially rich in linalool. It contributes the soft, sweet floral note that makes Steady feel emotionally comforting rather than simply woody.
Therapeutically, Magnolia brings 👇🏽
emotional soothing
comfort during separation or unfamiliar situations
softening of distress and overwhelm
quiet reassurance
support for a calm, settled atmosphere
A small human inhalation study of Michelia alba essential oil found changes in brain-wave activity consistent with relaxed alertness—not sedation.
What the formulation is doing 👇🏽
Amyris anchors.
Balsam Fir creates space.
Coriander regulates the nervous edge.
Magnolia brings comfort.
That is why Steady is the kiddies’ Balance. It isn’t designed to flatten a child’s emotions. It gives them an aromatic cue for pausing, breathing and finding their feet again.
When scent becomes associated with repeated experiences, using Steady alongside the same words
“You’re safe. Take a breath. One thing at a time” may help build a familiar calming ritual.
