Be Like Bees Based in Melbourne, my goals are to provide exciting and educational experiences. Check my website belikebees.com.au for programs or send me a message.

I’m passionate about supporting adults and children interested in bees, or beekeepers who want help to get started. When making decisions I always take into consideration the bees and our natural environment and I work in a calm, relaxed manner. My beekeeping experience begun in 2020 and since I have become familiar with traditional Langstroth, Flow hive and horizontal hives. My goals are to:
• be safe
• respect these little but important creatures
• be aware of our environmental responsibilities, interdependence and ecosystems
• care for the health of bees
• use methods that are as natural as possible while still maintaining regulations and requirements
• educate those interested in beekeeping with an expectation that they will take an ongoing responsibility for and care for their bees
• ensure bees have enough honey before taking it for humans. My qualifications include:
• Bachelor of Education (Adult Education and Training)
• Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
• Diploma of School Age Education and Care.
• Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services.

FYI
You must dispose of used oxalic acid beehive strips through Sustainability Victoria’s free Detox Your Home program. Because oxalic acid is a highly corrosive Schedule 6 Poison, it is classified as a hazardous chemical.
It is strictly prohibited to place these strips in your household garbage bins, recycling bins, green organics bins, or hard waste collections.

Safe Disposal Options in Wyndham City

• Detox Your Home Mobile Events: Sustainability Victoria, in partnership with Wyndham City Council, runs free drive-through drop-off days specifically for hazardous household chemicals. You must register in advance through the Detox Your Home registration page to check upcoming dates and secure a spot.
• The Werribee Transfer Station: While the standard landfill at the Werribee Tip (470 Wests Rd, Werribee) is not licensed to take liquid waste or bulk chemicals, they do host permanent drop-off stations for specific restricted materials. Contact the facility directly at 1300 023 411 before driving down to confirm if your specific style of spent hive strips can be accepted outside of a dedicated Detox Your Home day.

Please, please, please check your bees. They are swarming and its going to be a bumper year. Look for and remove queen cells every 7-10 days.
Swarms not only drop the number of bees in your hive and take your queen with them, they also get into spaces like your neighbours walls, this year they will also spread varroa and add to the depth of the mite bomb issue.
If you can't get in your hive give me a call, I offer a hive check service. belikebees.com.au
