HOW TO UNF**K YOUR HORMONES.

Feeling exhausted, bloated, anxious, breaking out or like a completely different person every week is NOT normal.

It might be time to stop pushing through and start listening to your body.

Your hormones are constantly responding to how you eat, sleep, move, manage stress and life situations (ie your nervous system & emotional regulation)

So please, stop normalising feeling like rubbish. You do not need to only enjoy one week of each month and dressing the remaining three.

Persistent fatigue, painful periods, irregular cycles, hair loss, unpredictable moods, ongoing acne, or poor sleep all deserve investigation, not another supplement promising to balance your hormones.

Your body isn’t broken.

It’s just asking for support, and sometimes that means looking deeper than lifestyle alone.

Sleep deprivation is intoxicating…

While you sleep, your body is anything but inactive.

Sleep is one of the most important periods of repair, restoration and renewal.

While you’re asleep, your body is busy repairing DNA, replenishing cellular energy and managing the oxidative stress accumulated throughout the day. Cellular housekeeping processes like autophagy help clear damaged cellular components, while protein synthesis supports muscle repair, tissue regeneration and growth.

Your immune system continues its work, inflammation is regulated, and your hormones are supported - including the healthy rhythm of cortisol and other hormones.

And your brain is working too. Sleep supports memory consolidation, neural repair and neuroplasticity, helping your brain process, adapt and restore.

Sleep also helps keep your circadian rhythm aligned with the natural light-dark cycle, while over the long term, quality sleep supports healthy ageing and cellular longevity.
So no, sleep isn’t time wasted.

Sleep isn’t simply time spent switched off.
It’s when your body gets to work on rebuilding you.

The OCP ‘The Pill’ changes your entire hormonal landscape.

And understanding how it does this is an important part of informed contraception choices.

The combined oral contraceptive pill works by suppressing the communication between your brain and ovaries, reducing FSH and LH signalling and preventing ovulation.

This means the hormonal pattern you experience while taking the pill is different from the hormonal pattern of a naturally ovulating menstrual cycle.

Your ovaries aren’t cycling in quite the same way. Your natural oestradiol and progesterone fluctuations are altered, and combined oral contraceptives can also increase SHBG and reduce circulating, particularly free, testosterone.

The bleeding you experience during the traditional pill-free interval isn’t even a natural menstrual period, it’s a withdrawal bleed caused by the drop in hormone exposure.

Your hormonal environment is being intentionally altered by the medication.

And that matters when you’re trying to understand your cycle, your symptoms and your body.

If you’re taking the pill, it’s worth knowing that your hormone profile and cycle experience may not reflect what your naturally ovulating cycle would look like.

Your body isn’t broken.
Your hormones aren’t necessarily ‘imbalanced’.
Your hormonal environment has been changed.

Knowledge gives you choice. And understanding your body is an important part of making informed choices about your health.

The Equinox 🌿🍂

A moment of balance… when light and dark, day and night, meet in equilibrium.

As one hemisphere welcomes spring and the other moves into autumn, we are reminded of our deeply cyclical nature.

We are always moving through seasons of expansion and contraction, blooming and shedding, doing and being.

For those entering spring, this is a time to awaken, unfurl and emerge from winter.

A season of new beginnings, fresh ideas and possibility. Inviting us to breathe new life into what has been resting and allow our energy to rise once again.

For those entering autumn, we are invited to slow down, turn inward and release.

Just as the trees surrender their leaves, we too can shed what no longer aligns, reflect upon our harvest and make space for rest, nourishment and renewal.

The Equinox reminds us that neither season is permanent. There is wisdom in both the blossoming and the letting go, the outward movement and the return inward.

Wherever you are in the world, may this seasonal turning point offer you an opportunity to pause, reflect and reconnect with your own rhythm.

Western medicine can be incredibly valuable when it comes to diagnosing and treating hormonal disorders from one single lens.

But there’s many layers to women’s health that often gets overlooked - how your hormones interact with your sleep, stress, nutrition, nervous system, movement and menstrual cycle.

From a holistic perspective, hormone health isn’t just about your hormone levels. It’s about the environment your body is living in.

Hormones don’t exist in isolation.

Oestrogen, progesterone, insulin, cortisol, thyroid hormones and other signalling systems interact with one another. Looking at the whole picture can reveal patterns that a single blood test may not.

Your symptoms are worth listening to.
Feeling exhausted, having debilitating PMS, losing your period, experiencing severe pain or noticing significant cycle changes shouldn’t simply be dismissed as “being a woman.”

Your body isn’t a collection of isolated symptoms.

It’s an interconnected system.

An ecosystem that works in synergy with everything around you.

We often hear productivity measured by how much we can do.

But for women, true vitality isn’t built by pushing harder - it’s built by honouring our physiology.

Unlike men, our hormones are constantly shifting throughout the month. These changing rhythms influence our energy, recovery, mood, metabolism and even the quality of our sleep.

Yet so many women expect themselves to feel and perform the same every single day.

Sleep isn’t just about feeling rested. It’s one of the most powerful regulators of hormonal health, nervous system resilience and long-term wellbeing.

The goal isn’t to create the perfect evening routine. It’s to create one you can return to consistently.

It’s working with your body instead of against it.

What’s one evening ritual that helps you unwind before bed? 🤍 🛌

Research shows that spending time in nature creates measurable changes in your brain, nervous system and overall health.

We can read the scientific evidence and understand the physiology of what’s happening chemically deep within, but really, we can also just trust or body’s, how they feel when we spend more time in nature and listen to the wisdom of nature, the earth, and how our ancestors have lived for centuries.

Here’s what happens when you step outside:

🌿 Your cortisol drops - lowering your body’s primary stress hormone.

🌿 Your nervous system shifts into rest-and-digest mode - helping reduce adrenaline, slow your heart rate and promote relaxation.

🌿 Serotonin activity increases - supporting a more positive mood, emotional balance and mental wellbeing.

🌿 Your immune system gets a boost - with increased activity of natural killer (NK) cells after spending time among trees.

🌿 Dopamine rises naturally - creating a steady sense of reward and motivation without the overstimulation of screens.

🌿 Inflammation quiets down - helping reduce one of the hidden contributors to fatigue, brain fog and low mood.

🌿 Endorphins increase - naturally elevating mood, easing discomfort and supporting resilience.

The best part…

Research suggests that just 20-30 minutes in nature may be enough to begin experiencing many of these benefits.

Sometimes the simplest prescription is the one we’ve known all along: step outside, take a deep breath, and let nature do what it does best. 🌿
