This week is National Carers Week, a time to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness of the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to a family member or friend.
The 2026 theme, “Care for a carer: Making carers visible,” shines a light on the invaluable contribution of unpaid carers and encourages all Australians to recognise, support and care for the carers in their families, workplaces and communities.

October is AAC Awareness Month.

A time to recognise the many tools, strategies and technologies that support or provide alternatives to spoken communication.

At Wilson Disability Care, we believe communication is a fundamental human right. Just because a person cannot communicate through speech does not mean they cannot understand, think, feel, or have something important to say.

This month, we encourage our community to be patient, presume competence, and listen in ways that work for each individual.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to have a voice, make choices, express themselves and and be fully heard.

WDC Support Coordination is available statewide across Tasmania, with Level 2 & 3 coordinators who understand local services, communities and the individual needs of participants.
