📚💙 A big thank you to Kiloran at Blue Doors Books Yass!

I had such a lovely visit to the shop and I'm so grateful for the way their promotion of my recent book talk. Their children's book selection is wonderful, and the displays are so warm and inviting that you can't help but want to stop, browse and pick up a story to share.

Independent bookshops like this do so much for our communities, helping families and educators find books that spark curiosity, connection and a love of reading. 🌟

If you're in Yass, pop in and say hello to the Blue Doors team. You'll be glad you did!

🌻 It’s National Children’s Week, and this year’s theme reminds us that children have the right to use their own language.

For many children, that language isn’t spoken. It might be a gesture, a look, a sound, a sign, a picture card, a communication device, or a change in body language. These are all real communication, and they deserve to be noticed, respected and responded to.

As educators and families, we can:
💛 Slow down and watch for the message behind the behaviour
💛 Offer a range of ways to communicate, such as visuals, signs, gestures and AAC
💛 Respond to every attempt, so children know they’ve been heard
💛 Value each child’s way of communicating, without pushing them towards speech

When we recognise all communication, children feel safe, valued, heard and included.

Some parts of parenting are hard to explain to people who haven't lived them. 💚

The exhaustion. The advocating. The cancelled plans. The little wins that might seem small to others but mean EVERYTHING to your family.

Sometimes, you don't need advice or someone telling you what you should be doing. You just need someone who gets it.

That's what the Neurospicy Parent Hub is all about. A space to connect with parents who understand the highs, the lows and everything in between.

Because you deserve support, too. 💚

Come and be part of our community.

Why is disability and inclusion still barely covered in early childhood training?

When Jenny completed her Early Childhood degree in 1989, it got a single semester. More than 30 years later, the picture hasn’t changed as much as it should.

Educators are asking for practical strategies, deeper knowledge and guidance they can use in their rooms straight away. That’s not a “nice to have”. It’s core to quality care and genuine inclusion.

With the right training and support, services can lift educator wellbeing and enrich learning for every child.

OUR FINAL WEBINAR FOR 2026! 💻

What if the environment is part of the reason a child is struggling to regulate?

Our final webinar for the year, Sensory Dysregulation & Learning Spaces, is designed to help early childhood educators look at their environments through a sensory lens and explore how small changes can make a big difference.

We’ll explore:
✨ How sensory needs can impact participation and regulation
✨ How learning spaces can contribute to sensory overload
✨ Practical strategies to create more supportive environments
✨ Ways to make spaces more predictable, accessible and inclusive

Because sometimes, supporting a child doesn’t start with changing the child -it starts with changing the environment.💚

Our final webinar for the year! Book your place today: https://innovativedisabilitysolutions.com.au/workshops/p/sensory-dysregulation-learning-spaces

🚩 What if the behaviour we’re concerned about is actually telling us something important?

A child who won’t participate, struggles with transitions or constantly seeks movement isn’t necessarily being difficult.

Is the activity accessible?
Are they feeling overwhelmed?
Do they understand what’s expected?
Do they need more preparation, support or a different way to connect?

Instead of asking, “How do we stop this behaviour?”, let’s start by asking, “What might this child be communicating, and what can we change to help?”

Sometimes, the biggest shift starts with looking at the environment, not just the child.

💬 What’s one behaviour you’ve learned to look at differently?
