Today is and the theme is "Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change".

Blue Knot recognises that the impact of childhood adversity and complex trauma is critical to improving mental health.

When people have access to trauma-informed and trauma-specific support, they can heal, recover, connect and participate.

Putting recovery from childhood adversity and complex trauma at the centre of mental health reform will help us thrive.

Sometimes it can feel like everyone else has things figured out. That they're handling life's challenges with confidence while you're still trying to work out the next step.

The truth is that uncertainty, self-doubt and difficult days are part of being human. For Autistic people, these experiences can be made harder by barriers, misunderstandings and challenges accessing the right support.

For World Mental Health Day, we've shared practical insights from autism research about building a mental wellbeing toolkit. The blog explores how self-compassion, gratitude, connection and support can help us navigate life's ups and downs.

It also includes free, research-informed resources co-designed with Autistic people to support wellbeing at different stages of life.

💯 Building daily living skills is so important for quality of life. We can assist to bridge the gap between therapies and daily living. We specialise in school leavers to independently drive, manage finances, make social connections, and feel confident and capable to live they way they want.
Our mentoring packages give young neurodiverse people a safe and judgement free space to build their identity.
Contact us at our website.

Independence builds through everyday practice, at home, at school and out in the community, at whatever pace suits your family.

Breaking a task into smaller steps, using a job chart for chores, or practising a bus trip together turns a big goal into something achievable this week.

Starting these skills early, even in small ways, makes adolescence and the years ahead feel more manageable. Self-care routines, household chores, and safe travel all add up to the same thing: confidence that carries into adulthood.

Our full article breaks down practical ways to help autistic children build independence. Link in comments.

Have you had your say in CYDA’s National Education survey? 🎒

If you’re a current or former student with disability, or a parent or caregiver, it’s not too late to take part at the links below.

➡️ Link for young people: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CPTQLQR
➡️ Link for parents or caregivers: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WN29S6J

We run these surveys every two years so we can tell schools and governments what school is like for students with disability and what needs to happen to improve it.

Your insights are invaluable for making sure every child and young person is included in education.
Surveys close 15 October 2026 🗓️
