What happens within us when we receive a reading?

A reflection on participation, trust, and what I call “alchemical conjuring”: a familiar story loosens, a feeling finds words, or a new possibility comes into view.

Your willingness, curiosity, and freedom to discern are part of that encounter.

From the Entering the Dialogue series. 🌿

Sometimes, it isn’t the threshold itself that makes transition difficult, but the shape we have already decided the other side should take.
We can hold so tightly to our ideas of readiness — to the structures, identities and expectations we believe need to be in place — that crossing becomes more strenuous than it needs to be.
In this snippet from Entering the Dialogue: Readiness, I reflect on this through the experience of becoming a mother, and what can happen when life asks us to loosen our grip on how we imagined we would arrive.
Perhaps readiness is not about having the right structure in place.
Perhaps it is about becoming willing to be changed by what we are entering. 🌿

A little reading from Two Deers Ten Doors Down 🌿🦌🦌

If this has found something in you, the full piece is waiting over on substack — “The Cloak of Invisibility: The Algorithm entered Seance ( on motherhood, mediumship, algorithms, and refusing to perform my way into being seen.

Hi my Instagrammers,
my 6-second attention spanners,
my algorithms of dopamine and glory.
I haven’t forgotten you.
I’ve just landed somewhere that perhaps suits me a little better — somewhere with room for my long-form thoughts, reading, writing, wandering, wondering, and occasional refusal to get to the point.
And I’ve been loving it.
I’ve wandered over to Substack, where apparently people still read entire paragraphs. Sometimes several of them. In a row.
Who knew?
I’m writing over there as Two Deers Ten Doors Down — essays, symbolic wanderings, bits of psyche, nature, culture, and whatever else comes rummaging through.
I’ll still be here.
I may just occasionally disappear ten doors down. 🦌🦌🌿

What happens when an unwelcome communicator enters a mediumship session?

Not every presence that arrives needs to be given the floor.

As practitioners, our responsibility extends beyond receiving information. It asks us to remain relationally attuned to the person sitting in front of us — their history, their readiness, their boundaries, and the potential impact of what we choose to bring into the space.

Sometimes discernment means opening the door.
And sometimes, it means gently keeping it closed.

Evidence is not the only measure of ethical mediumship.

Mediumship is not only about connection. It is also about discernment, responsibility & care.

19/08/2026

In mediumship, so much attention is given to the practitioner: How do I perform? Where is the information coming from? How do I receive more evidence?

But what about the person receiving it?

Is there enough readiness to meet what may emerge? What happens when information enters a psyche that may already be navigating grief, trauma, longing or uncertainty? And where does our responsibility begin — and end — as practitioners?

Perhaps the question is not only whether the information is accurate, but whether we have developed the discernment to recognise what is ours to say, how it is offered, and what may be projection rather than perception.

Maybe readiness belongs to both sides of the threshold.

There is just this…
Open air…
Quietly succumbing to every moment’s unfolding…
The witness awareness merging into the never-ending continuity of NOW…
Presence… deepening each moment into eternity. 🤍

Join us [LINK IN BIO] — as we deepen our exploration of readiness — moving into the territories of agency, discernment, boundaries, and our capacity to remain present as material arises.

Threshold work asks something of us. Whether we are receiving or facilitating, how do we know what we are ready to enter, what belongs to us, and when enough is enough?

And perhaps just as important as entering is returning.
Not simply the part of us that closes the session, finishes the reading, or says goodbye — but all the parts of us that entered the space.

How do we reclaim ourselves after threshold work?
How do we gather our life force and truly return?
This exploration is for readers, psychotherapists and initiatory practitioners — but also for anyone curious about the deeper process of this work: what it asks of us, what it costs, and what it takes to enter these spaces with agency, discernment and care.
