Can we talk about the sibling wound for a second?

Sometimes it’s not just sibling rivalry…
it’s growing up feeling compared, overlooked, or like you had to compete for your place in the family.

And years later, you’re still trying to prove you’re enough without even realising why.

Read that again ☝️

Sometimes, the closure you’re waiting for will never come. The apology may never happen. The accountability you deserve may never be given.

But you don’t have to stay stuck waiting for someone else to acknowledge the pain they caused you.

You can heal without an apology. You can find peace without an explanation. And you can move forward without them ever understanding what they put you through.

Your healing is yours. Your peace is yours. And you deserve both, even without the apology you’ve been waiting for. 🫶✨

No because being a therapist is actually wild…

I can know EVERYTHING about you — your childhood, your relationship drama, your deepest secrets…

and then if I see you in public, I have to pretend I don’t know you because your privacy and confidentiality come first!!

Imagine knowing someone’s entire life story and then walking past them like:

“Lovely weather today.”

“Why do I work so hard when I’m already exhausted?”

“Why do I feel guilty when someone does something for me?”

“Why does disappointing someone feel almost unbearable?”

“Why can’t I just relax without feeling like I should be doing more?”

As a therapist, these are the moments I’d get curious about.

Because sometimes what looks like ambition is actually a fear of not being enough.

What looks like independence can sometimes be a fear of needing people.

What looks like being caring can sometimes be a lifelong fear of rejection.

And what looks like perfectionism can be a nervous system that learned mistakes came with consequences.

Your childhood may have taught you:

“I’m valuable when I achieve.”
→ So you overwork.

“I’m lovable when I’m useful.”
→ So you overgive.

“I’m safe when everyone is happy with me.”
→ So you people-please.

“If I lose control, something will go wrong.”
→ So you control everything.

“If I fail, I’m a failure.”
→ So you become terrified of making mistakes.

“If I say no, they might leave.”
→ So you abandon yourself to keep the relationship.

And this is the part people often miss:

You may not actually have a “work problem,” a “boundaries problem,” or a “confidence problem.”

You may have learned a survival strategy that no longer fits your adult life.

That doesn’t mean your parents were necessarily “bad.”

It means your younger self adapted to what they experienced.

So if this feels uncomfortably familiar, don’t ask:

“What’s wrong with me?”

Try asking:

“What did I learn I had to become in order to feel loved?”

Most people don’t need more clarity.
They need the courage to choose themselves.

Because deep down, they already know what they want.

They’re just scared of what happens when they stop being who everyone else needs them to be.

Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t figuring out what you want.

It’s accepting that someone might be disappointed when you finally choose it.

You are allowed to disappoint people to stop disappointing yourself.

Save this for the day you need the reminder.

“I never really needed much.”

That sentence comes up more often than you’d think.
And sometimes, when we slow it down, it sounds less like “I was an easy child”…

…and more like:

“I learned very early that having needs made things harder.”

Maybe you stopped asking for help because it was met with frustration.

Maybe you learned to read the room before deciding whether it was safe to speak.

Maybe you became incredibly independent — not because you didn’t need anyone, but because needing someone had consequences.

And now?

You’re the teenager who says,
“I’m fine.”
Even when you’re not.

You’re the adult who apologises before asking for anything.

You feel guilty when someone does something kind for you.

You struggle to receive without immediately thinking,
“What do I owe them?”

You minimise your pain.

You say, “It’s not a big deal,” while quietly carrying something that actually is.

You become the person everyone can rely on…

…but secretly wonder if anyone would stay if you stopped being so easy to love.

And here’s the part I want you to hear:

You were never “too independent.”
You were adapting.

The child who never asked for anything wasn’t necessarily without needs.

They may have simply learned that having needs wasn’t safe.

And healing can look surprisingly ordinary.

It can look like saying:

“Actually, I do need help.”

“No, I’m not okay.”

“Could you stay with me for a minute?”

“I’d like something too.”

Without explaining.

Without apologising.

Without earning the right to need.

Because your needs were never the problem.

You just deserved to learn that they were allowed.

Have you ever sat there thinking…

“Is this just what midlife feels like?”

Because you’re more exhausted than you used to be.
Your brain feels noisier.
Your capacity for people, work and everyday life has changed.
Things you used to manage suddenly feel completely overwhelming.

And then you start wondering…

Is it perimenopause?
Is it burnout?
Is it ADHD?
Could I be autistic too?

And this is where it gets complicated for women who reach midlife without ever having understood their neurodivergence.

Because many of us have spent decades masking, over-functioning, people-pleasing, pushing through and finding ways to compensate.

Until midlife.

Then the strategies that worked for years can suddenly stop working.

And instead of asking, “What’s actually going on here?”, women can end up being told they’re stressed, hormonal, overwhelmed or simply not coping.

But sometimes there’s a much bigger picture.

The overlap between ADHD, autism, perimenopause and burnout deserves to be understood — especially when you’re a woman who has spent a lifetime adapting yourself to fit the world around you.

If you’ve reached midlife and thought, “Something has changed… but I don’t know what,” you’re not imagining that question.

This is exactly why we need to talk about late-diagnosed ADHD, autism and neurodivergence in midlife women — because understanding the why can change the way you understand your entire life.

When did you first start questioning ADHD or autism during perimenopause or midlife?

You’re so mature for your age.”

Sometimes I wonder how many children we praised for being “mature” when they were actually just learning how to survive their environment.

The peacemaker.
The responsible one.
The one who never asked for much.

You weren’t supposed to manage everyone else’s emotions.
You were supposed to be a child. 🤍

And maybe healing means finally learning:
“I don’t have to carry what was never mine.”

I’m a therapist. I just want to support people.

Not put my whole life on show for everyone to judge or
spend all this energy creating something just to stand out.

I’m tired. Just book an appointment. It’s that simple.

You don’t need another fu***ng self-help book.

You probably already know why you’re stuck.
You’ve analysed it. Talked about it. Googled it. Saved the podcast. Downloaded the app.

And you’re still doing the same s**t.

Because knowing your patterns isn’t the same as changing them.

Real psychological change means getting uncomfortable: challenging your beliefs, changing your behaviours, regulating your emotions, and breaking the cycles you’ve been repeating for years.

And no — you don’t have to do it alone.

If you’re ready to stop collecting information and start creating actual change, book a session.

Follow for psychology, mindset and real-world tools — without the bulls**t.
