From today, your genetic test results can't be used against you for life insurance
As of 8 October 2026, Australian life insurers can no longer ask for or use genetic test results to refuse cover, add exclusions or charge you more. That includes death, disability, trauma and income protection cover. They also can't ask whether you or a relative have had, plan to have, or been advised to have a genetic test.

For years, some people put off genetic testing because they were worried about insurance. If that's been you, this is a good time to have the conversation. Our genetic counsellors can help you understand your options and decide whether testing is right for you. No question is too small.
