Upper body assessment after breast cancer treatment:
Shoulder range of movement is only part of the picture.
Your arm may lift overhead, yet something still feels tight or different. During a physiotherapy assessment, we also look at:
• How the shoulder blade and chest wall move together
• Breast and chest wall symmetry during movement
• Compensations, like elevating the shoulder or leaning the trunk
• Tightness in the scar, chest wall or underarm, including cording and stiffness after radiation or reconstruction
Seeing the full pattern helps us find what is driving stiffness or discomfort, so rehabilitation can be more targeted. Assessment can start soon after surgery, to help prevent long-term limitations and support a timely return to the activities you enjoy.
If your shoulder or chest has felt tight, restricted or different since treatment, call us on 02 8018 8240. We’re available 24/7.
Cancer care doesn't end when treatment does.
