Earworx Earworx is a dedicated professional earwax removal service. Some people have more of a problem with wax build-up than others. Why see us?

Using dry and effective micro-suction technology under direct observation, wax is gently and safely removed by a qualified nurse. Excessive or impacted cerumen is present in one in 10 children, one in 20 adults, and more than one-third of the geriatric and developmentally delayed populations. Ear wax removal is a delicate process and special training is required to perform this procedure. Earworx is a service that proudly employs only registered nurses who are qualified in the process of Micro Suction and Aural Hygiene. Ear wax removal is our core business - it is what we do best! Symptoms associated with wax impaction can include but are not limited to:

- Hearing loss
- Tinnitus
- Feeling of fullness
- Itching
- Pain
- Discharge
- Odour
- Cough

If you fit the criteria above or have any of the associated symptoms you should consider having your ears looked at to exclude wax impaction.

Happy Halloween from Earworx! 🎃

⚠️ WARNING: This post contains images of real dead insects found in ears at Earworx clinics. Some of the creepy crawlies Earworx Registered Nurses have come across include: flies, bees and cockroaches.

If you think something is in your ear, please don't poke at it with cotton buds, tweezers or your fingers. This can push it deeper or damage the delicate ear canal and eardrum. Seek medical attention instead.

In 2016, Founder and Registered Nurse Lisa Hellwege opened the first Earworx clinic with one idea. Earwax care and ear health deserved a dedicated clinic, led by Registered Nurses.

Ten years on, Earworx has clinics across Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT.

Earworx Registered Nurses complete a nationally accredited course in aural care, plus an extensive practical placement.

Along the way, Earworx has appeared on national TV and radio, and in 2024, was honoured with the National Championing Health Award at the Telstra Best of Business Awards.

But the real story is the people. The nurses, the head office team, the multidisciplinary teams and referrers who work alongside Earworx every day.

To everyone who has walked through a clinic door over the last ten years, the Earworx team says thank you. We are incredibly grateful.

SERIES: Listen To Your Ears

Part 1: Fullness, pressure and blockage

Ears feeling full or plugged? Like you're underwater? Sounds muffled? It won't ‘pop’?

Consider these common reasons:
1️⃣ Earwax in the ear canal can stop sound reaching the eardrum
2️⃣ Pressure changes: flying, colds or allergies can affect the tube that balances ear pressure
3️⃣ Fluid behind the eardrum, often linked to a cold or ear infection

Where earwax is the cause, it can be removed by Registered Nurses using microsuction. If fullness persists, or comes with pain, discharge or hearing loss, see your GP.

True or False?

Dry skin can contribute to earwax blockages? 🤔 TRUE!

The skin lining in your ear canal naturally sheds. When that skin is dry or flaky, it can mix with earwax and build up into a blockage. In this clip, an Earworx Registered Nurse works on a large plug of wax with a sheet of skin trapped behind it.

If your ears feel blocked, a Registered Nurse at Earworx can assess them and discuss your options. Call 1800 327 967 or find your local clinic online.

Narrow Ear Canals May Feel Blocked Faster.

Every ear canal is different. Narrower canals may become blocked more easily, and it may take far less wax to create that blocked feeling. A Registered Nurse at Earworx can take a look and talk you through your options.

Types of Ear Wax [An Earworx 7-part series]

6. Wet or Dry Ear Wax

Sticky or flaky?

There are two main types of earwax, wet and dry, and genetics largely decides which one you have.

Wet wax is honey coloured, soft and sticky. Dry wax is white or grey and flaky. Both are normal.

Wet wax isn't the same as runny or liquid discharge. If fluid is coming from your ear, seek medical advice.

If you have any concerns, call Earworx on 1800 327 967.

Ears feeling blocked, muffled or full ? 👂

Watch along as Earworx Registered Nurse, Tahlia, works on a large plug of earwax using microsuction.

Microsuction uses a fine suction tip to ease wax out of the ear canal. Tahlia works with a slow, careful wriggling motion to help loosen the wax. Every ear is different. Your RN will assess your ears and discuss the approach suitable for you.
