Breathlessness during exercise can be common with asthma, but it is often misunderstood. Many people with well-managed asthma can enjoy regular physical activity when they follow their individual plan and build up gradually. 🏃‍♀️

Helpful reminders:
• Follow your written asthma action plan.
• Take your preventer medication as prescribed.
• Warm up properly and pace yourself.
• Learn and recognise your personal triggers.
• Speak with your doctor before changing your exercise or respiratory routine.

Kan-Breathe is a drug-free Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) device that may complement a broader respiratory routine under the guidance of a qualified health professional. It is not a treatment for asthma, an emergency device, or a replacement for prescribed asthma medication. Never stop or change prescribed medication without professional advice.

This post provides general educational information only and is not medical advice. Please speak with your doctor or asthma healthcare professional for guidance specific to your needs.

A new school term is a great time to build simple, healthy breathing habits into your child’s day. 🎒

For active kids, encourage them to:

• Sit tall with good posture at their desk

• Breathe through the nose during everyday activities when comfortable
• Practise calm, steady breathing awareness during sport and play
• Take regular movement breaks between lessons and homework

Before use by a child, please consult a healthcare professional to ensure it is appropriate for their individual needs. This post is for general educational information only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice or prescribed care.

When bushfire smoke turns the sky hazy, it’s time to take extra care of your airways. 🌫️

Smoke contains fine particles that can irritate the nose, throat and lungs. These particles may also worsen breathing symptoms, especially for children, older adults and people with existing respiratory concerns.

Here’s a practical guide for smoky days:

• Check your local air-quality rating through your state or territory environment agency before heading outside. Read the health advice alongside the rating, not just the number or colour.

• Keep doors and windows closed. Seal obvious gaps where possible, and set your air conditioner to recirculate rather than bringing smoky outdoor air inside.

• Use an air purifier if available, ideally in the room where you spend the most time.

• Limit strenuous outdoor exercise while smoke levels are elevated. Choose gentle indoor movement instead.

• Pay attention to your breathing. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop new or worsening breathlessness, wheeze or chest tightness. Call emergency services for severe breathing difficulty.

Proudly Australian-made 🇦🇺

Behind every Kan-Breathe device is a commitment to practical design, careful manufacturing and local craftsmanship.

Founder Brian Peters has built Kan-Breathe around a simple idea: create a drug-free Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) breathing device that is easy to use, durable and accessible.

The device is manufactured in Australia using a polypropylene body, stainless steel ball bearings and an internal diaphragm. Together, these components create resistance during exhalation, producing the pressure and vibration that make Kan-Breathe a practical breathing-support tool.

There are no batteries, charging cables or complicated setup. It is compact, portable and designed to fit easily into everyday routines, whether at home or on the go.

We believe transparency matters. Knowing who makes a product, where it is made and how it works helps customers make informed choices.

Breath support for singers and performers isn’t about taking the biggest breath possible. It’s about using a comfortable inhale and a steady, relaxed exhale. 🎶

Try this gentle pre-performance guide:

Warm up gradually with light humming, lip trills or easy scales. Let your inhale arrive quietly, without lifting your shoulders or filling beyond comfort.

As you sing, support each phrase with a steady exhale. Aim for even airflow rather than pushing at the end of the phrase.

Keep your shoulders soft and your jaw relaxed. Releasing unnecessary tension can make calm, natural breathing easier.

A relaxed exhale is often more useful than a dramatic inhale. Practise gently and consistently, never by force. If you feel dizzy, strained or uncomfortable, pause and return to normal breathing.

Pregnancy can change how breathing feels : and noticing those changes without judgement can be a helpful part of preparing for birth and early motherhood. 🤍

As your body adapts, your breathing pattern may feel different at different stages. Gentle breath awareness can help you notice when you are tense, relax your shoulders and jaw, and return to a comfortable natural rhythm.

During labour, many people find it helpful to focus on slow, steady breathing and a relaxed exhale. There is no single “right” way to breathe, so follow the guidance of your midwife or birth team and avoid forcing your breath or holding it for long periods.

After birth, give yourself time. Comfortable positions, gentle breathing awareness and rest may help you reconnect with your body as it recovers. Be patient with yourself : every pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience is different.

Speak with your midwife or GP if you have concerns. Seek urgent medical care for sudden or severe breathlessness, breathing difficulty at rest, chest pain, fainting, blue lips or coughing blood.

Va**ng and young lungs: what parents and teens should know 💙

Young people’s lungs and brains are still developing. Va**ng is not simply harmless water vapour: it can expose the body to ni****ne and other substances that may irritate the airways. Ni****ne can also lead to dependence, making it difficult to stop.

A supportive approach can help:

• Parents and carers: start a calm, open conversation and listen without judgement.
• Teens: ask questions, check reliable health information, and speak up if va**ng is affecting your breathing, mood or daily life.
• Everyone: remember that support is available. A GP, pharmacist, school nurse or other healthcare professional can provide confidential, personalised guidance.

Seek professional advice if there is an ongoing cough, wheeze, chest pain, shortness of breath or concern about ni****ne dependence. Seek urgent medical help for severe breathing difficulty or chest pain.

If you work around dust, fumes or exhaust, protecting your lungs starts with reducing exposure : not simply pushing through.

For tradies, outdoor workers and industrial teams, practical everyday steps include:

1. Use ventilation and local exhaust systems wherever possible.
2. Follow workplace procedures and check Safety Data Sheets for products you handle.
3. Use wet-cutting methods and avoid dry sweeping or blowing dust with compressed air.
4. Wear the correct respiratory protective equipment, fitted and maintained as required.
5. Take clean-air breaks, wash your hands and face before eating, and change dusty work clothing after your shift.
6. Report concerns early and speak with a healthcare professional if you experience ongoing breathing discomfort, coughing or unusual shortness of breath.

Kan-Breathe is a portable, battery-free, Australian-made Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) device that may be included in a personal breathing routine. Always use it as directed and discuss whether it is suitable for you with a healthcare professional. It is not a replacement for workplace controls, protective equipment or medical advice.
