Sometimes you sit down to rest, but your mind keeps going, replaying conversations, making lists, thinking about what comes next.

I’m sharing my 12-minute guided meditation, Calm a Racing Mind, for those moments when you’d welcome a little space to pause.

I've written a blog about the part of trying to conceive that nobody warns you about.

The hidden resentment, anger toward our bodies, and the frustration of our biggest wish staying out of reach, and even giving up hope that this wonderful event will happen at all.

Your body was never built for a straight line. It moves in circles, rhythmically, like the seasons.

Most of us learned to treat our cycle as background noise, something to push through until it forces its way back into view. Often not in the best way.

My new blog post is out, if you fancy a read.

Love,
Mel

We learned to treat the cycle as background noise, something to push through. The body keeps the record anyway, in sleep, in energy, in appetite. An honest look at what living against your hormonal rhythm actually costs.

The goal isn't to become permanently calm.

Life wouldn't allow that anyway.

There will be stressful weeks. Poor sleep. Hormonal shifts. Difficult conversations. Loss. Excitement. Deadlines. Change.

Our nervous systems are designed to respond.

The practice is learning how to come back.

Back from tension.
Back from bracing.
Back from constant readiness.
Back toward a little more ease.

That return can be practiced; slowly, repeatedly, and without force.

We tend to think of health as something that happens solely inside the body.

But our bodies are in constant conversation with their surroundings.

The air, food packaging, plastics, cosmetics, household products, and countless substances we encounter as part of ordinary modern life.

Research into endocrine-disrupting chemicals has made that relationship increasingly difficult to ignore, including within conversations about reproductive health.

This isn't about trying to create a perfectly toxin-free life or becoming frightened of everything around us.

It's about awareness.

I explore this more carefully in Fertility Is Not Just Personal: The Invisible Environment We Live In.

Medical expertise matters.

But so does your participation and your full consent.

You are allowed to ask why. You are allowed to understand the options being offered to you. You are allowed to ask about risks and alternatives. You are allowed to seek another opinion when something doesn't feel right.

My experience with fibroids taught me how little I understood about my own hormones and reproductive body, and how much that knowledge changed the way I participated in my healthcare.

Good medicine and body literacy are not opposites. They work best together.

I wrote about the experience in What My Fibroids Taught Me About the Female Body.

Yoga cannot cure PMOS.

I think that's important to say clearly, particularly in a wellness world where practices are sometimes given claims they cannot carry.

What yoga can offer is different.

A place to slow down. To breathe. To move without constantly trying to optimise the body. To support rest and nervous system regulation. To meet the body rather than continually manage it.

None of that replaces appropriate medical care. But it can still have a meaningful place beside it.

I write more about PMOS, women's health and the role yoga may play in the full article.

A regulated nervous system isn't one that is calm all the time.

You can be angry, excited, frightened, stressed, grieving or overwhelmed and still have a healthy nervous system response.

Regulation is about flexibility.

The ability to move through different states and eventually find your way back toward relative ease.

That distinction matters because nervous system regulation has increasingly become another thing we're told we should be good at.

It isn't a permanent state to achieve.

I unpack what nervous system regulation actually means in When Your Body Won't Switch Off on Healing Corners Yoga.

When something in the body isn't working as we hoped, the question can very quickly become:

What's wrong with me?

But sometimes there is value in widening the question.

What is my body responding to?

Sleep. Stress. Nutrition. Hormonal changes. Age. Environment. Life circumstances. Often many things interacting rather than one neat explanation.

This is particularly important in conversations around fertility, where responsibility and self-blame can become painfully intertwined.

My article Fertility Is Not Just Personal explores one often-overlooked part of that wider picture: the environment we live in.

We live largely according to linear expectations.

The same productivity. The same energy. The same output. Day after day.

But the female body isn't static.

Across the menstrual cycle, our hormonal landscape changes, and with it can come changes in energy, appetite, mood, sleep, physical capacity, and the need for rest.

Learning this changed the way I understood my own body.

Ironically, it was my experience with fibroids that sent me down that path in the first place.

I wrote about that journey from a difficult medical appointment to hormones, fertility awareness, and body literacy on Healing Corners Yoga.
