I found a study that made me question how closely research reflects real life.

In the study, 236 women—not 2,437—rated photographs of men with and without tattoos. The tattooed men were perceived as healthier, more masculine, more dominant, and more aggressive.

However, they were also rated as less desirable as potential long-term partners and fathers.

The study was published in 2018 by Galbarczyk and Pawłowski in Personality and Individual Differences. The paper is titled “Tattoos, health, and masculinity: The relationship between body modifications and perceived mate value.”

But after eight years of running a tattoo studio, this doesn’t really match what I see in everyday life.

In my experience, tattoos don’t automatically make someone less desirable as a partner or father. Often, they’re simply one part of a person’s identity—and people respond to the whole person, not just the ink.

So I’m curious:
