Wellness is more than the absence of illness-it is about creating healthier individuals, healthier workplaces, and healthier communities.
During wellness week the Central Health Region proudly promoted physical activity, Healthy eating, mental health wellbeing, disease prevention, and self care.
From Health education to staff engagement, screenings and outreach, our dedicated HECOPAB team demonstrated that prevention and wellness is at the heart of quality healthcare.
This week we have partnered with G.A Roe and Sons, All Saints Primary School, Sister Cecilia home for the Elderly and YMCA, as well as engaged our own CHR staff in wellness activities, encouraging all to move more, eat well and take care of mental health.

The Mental Health unit at the Central Health Region held a meaningful candlelight vigil on September 9 2026 in observance of World Su***de Prevention day.

"Changing the narrative, start the conversation"

Encouraging the general public to move from silence to openness, from judgement to compassion and from stigma to understanding.

As we illuminated the evening, we strengthened our commitment to shared responsibility. Each one of us has a role to play in creating safe spaces where people can speak about their struggles without fear of judgement.

Let us change the narrative,
Let us choose compassion
Let us listen
Let us support each other and work together to prevent su***de.

Preventing mosquito-borne diseases is a shared responsibility. Thanks to the support of the San Pedro Town council, in promoting community participation and implementing effective public health interventions to keep the community safe.
We encourage all residents to do their part by eliminating standing water around their homes, maintaining clean surroundings and support vector control activities.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness Belize advises the public to exercise caution when traveling, particularly given the increase in measles cases reported in neighboring Guatemala, including areas within Petén Department.

Guatemala has reported a total of 5,120 confirmed cases, 4 deaths, and a case fatality rate of 0.09% in 2026.

Measles is highly contagious and can be transmitted 4 days before and 4 days after the rash appears. Individuals are encouraged to monitor for signs such as fever and rash and to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop.

Vaccination remains the most effective protection. Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that children are fully immunized with the MMR vaccine and that all routine immunizations are up to date. Travelers should get vaccinated at least 2 weeks before the travel date.

The Ministry continues with enhanced surveillance and to monitor the situation closely and encourages the public to remain vigilant and follow official health guidance to prevent further transmission.
