Accessibility is a priority at PVP - so we have purchased an iPad and equipped it with communication apps that have accessibility in mind. We have it ready with Proloquo2go, TouchChat, ASL interpreter, and three different language translation apps! We hope it provides everyone an opportunity to access service at our pharmacy without barriers! If there are any important ones we’ve missed, please let us know!!

ID: Six different photos each of an iPad showing different demonstrations of communication accessibility applications on the screen.

We will now be accepting phone calls to book your appointment for the COVID-19 AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine. Please read through the eligibility criteria (https://www.pvpaltona.com/covid19-resources) prior to making your phone call. After you have read through the eligibility criteria and you believe that you fall into these criteria, you can call the store where you will be further screened by the employees for eligibility. We do have a limited supply available, so we ask for your patience and understanding over the next couple of weeks.
A few important notes:
1. Individuals who are 65 or over the age of 65 will not be booked for an appointment at this time (please see eligibility criteria).
2. We anticipate increased amounts of calls to the store, so please be patient as we screen and book appointments, while still providing quality care to our customers.
3. Although you may go through the screening with us, it does not guarantee you an appointment - the employee who will be screening you for fit to the criteria will discuss that with you. It will depend on whether a) you have been determined to meet the criteria, b) the amount of appointments previously booked, c) any other considerations.
4. We will not be booking appointments through any platform other than by phone. Sending direct messages, comments on posts, or emails is not a viable and safe way for us to book in your appointment. You must call the store.
5. In recognition of our limited supply, we will be creating a waitlist.

For any questions or to be screened for an appointment, please call your pharmacists at (204)324-5550

Some great recommendations below! There is still time to enter our #pvpheartsreading contest!

With the recent temperature drop- has anyone "dipped" into a good read? Need some new recommendations to fill your pages?

We polled our staff for you!

One staff member recommended "Oath of Honor". She says that it was a romance mystery novel which she just could not put down!

Another staff member does pass kudos to her husband who recommended "Ender's Game" to her! She said that the character development made her completely invested in the story!

The final recommendation was "The Alchemist". The story of a young shepherd in pursuit of a treasure - it is one of our staff's favorites to remind her to "read beyond the words".

Thanks again to Pembina Valley Pharmacy for this great contest!

This year wasn’t expected, to say the least.

So, we aren’t going to post about all the positives that came from this year, or try to unpack all the negatives. But, this time around, we are simply reflecting on the fact that we made it another year. And for that we are so grateful and will celebrate with a few days off.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and fresh start to the new year! See you on Monday.

An extremely thoughtful caption.

Weekend Update from Mayor Friesen, featuring a shout out to the Town of Altona Recreation Department for their Night of Lights event, and Twelve Salon & Spa for his recent curbside shopping experience with them.

--------------------

Our Communications Officer has spent a lot of time thinking about the ways that we communicate around COVID-19, and wanted to share this message with you all this week.

We’ve been in code red lockdown for three weeks now, and dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for over eight months. It hasn’t been easy. We miss our friends, and our families, and the sense of normalcy. We miss chatting with old friends in the grocery store, gathering at community events or at church, and we miss being able to travel. We miss being able to play sports, and eat in restaurants, and visit our loved ones who are vulnerable.

There are a lot of things that we miss, and we are all tired, and sad, and frustrated. Some people are frustrated because they feel the safety measures in place are not strong enough, and some are frustrated because the feel that they are too strong. We all want our lives to go back to normal – to go back to gathering with friends and family, and doing the things we love to do. We can’t do that until this threat, this global crisis, is resolved, and that means that we need to listen to the medical experts and the scientists, and prevent COVID-19 from overwhelming our healthcare system. When we go back to gathering with loved ones, we want them all to be around the table with us. For those of us in the community who have already lost loved ones to COVID-19, there aren’t enough words to express the pain.

Throughout these past eight months, we’ve kept our messaging primarily focused on the positives – on finding the hope and finding the light at the end of the tunnel, and we are going to continue to do that. If you've got suggestions for things we should share or highlight, we would love if you sent it to us! Here are some things that we HAVEN’T missed out on this year:

We’ve connected as a community in all sorts of new ways, like chalk your walk, and paintings in windows, and zoom calls, and physically distanced visits, and virtual events and forums, and videos and photos and so many more.

We’ve spent more time enjoying the outdoors, going for a walk or bike ride. Lots of folks have tried their hand at gardening, or home improvement projects this year that they felt they didn’t have time to do before, and people have picked up new hobbies and skills as well.

Throughout this all, our businesses have pivoted to new and innovative ways to connect with us. They’ve offered curbside pick-up and delivery, and online or virtual shopping. They’ve run fun new promotions as ways to add a bit more light to our lives, and have supported one another.

As a community, we’ve ordered our food to go, we’ve sent gift cards or gifts to friends and strangers alike, we’ve called our local businesses to find out how we can still access our favourite products and services, and we’ve shopped local. Remember, the majority of our local businesses are still open right now, even if you can’t go in the door. Visit our website for an ever-growing list of the ways that you can access products and services from home.

Thank you for continuing to find the light with us. Times are tough right now, but so are we, and we will get through this together. Let’s continue to practice kindness, and all of the fundamentals to protect one another.

In an effort to continue spreading hope, light and positivity, we ask that you keep the comment section kind.
