Yesterday marked 27 years since my grandmother passed away.
She is the woman whose lineage I have spent so much of my life learning to understand, heal, and reclaim. The folk healing I practise today is an offering to her and to the ways of those who came before her.
There has been so much healing in this journey. Not only in tending to the pain and trauma carried through generations, but in remembering that our lineages hold gifts too. Wisdom. Intuition. Ways of knowing and working with the natural world that may have been forgotten, silenced, or set aside.
As I have reclaimed this medicine, I have witnessed the ways it has brought so much healing and reconnection into my own life, my children’s lives, and all the generations connected to us.
I think often about how we speak of ancestral healing as though our ancestors are only the wounds they carried. But what if we made space to only remember the wise and well among them? The healers, the protectors, the ones who carried knowledge, love, and gifts that were never meant to be lost. They are yours to reclaim if you wish to.
This is part of why Marissa Rignola and I created Ancestral Whispers. A space to honour those who came before us, to open to the wisdom they have to share, and reconnect with the parts of our lineage that nourish, guide, and remind us of who we truly are underneath all the noise.
We gather this Thursday online to honour these ancestors and all the medicine your line carries. If you feel a pull towards this work, we’d love to welcome you in the circle.
