continue the everyday management of your blood sugar & cholesterol with 1ļøāƒ£ simple step: make room for more non-starchy vegetables.

here’s why:

🩸 blood sugar support: generally lower in carbohydrates along with a good amount of fiber to help balance out your meal

ā¤ļø heart health: fiber supports a heart-healthy eating pattern. adding in more soluble fiber specifically can help lower LDL cholesterol

✨ fullness & nourishment: water, fiber, vitamins & minerals make for a highly satisfying, nutrient-dense plate

šŸ more colour = more variety: different veggies offer different nutrients. go ahead, mix & match!

your Thanksgiving veggie lineup:
🄦 steamed broccoli & cauliflower
šŸƒ roasted Brussels sprouts & green beans
🄬 sautéed spinach & leafy green side salads
šŸ„ grilled mushrooms & asparagus

what about potatoes, sweet potatoes, & corn?…they absolutely can stay on your plate! note, higher in carbs - so if you’re managing blood sugar, keep portions & overall meal balance in mind

ā˜‘ļø aim to fill 1/2 your plate with non-starchy vegetables, then add protein & some of your fav carb-rich sides.

save this for your Thanksgiving table & share it with someone who loves a little practical nutrition advice!

happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 šŸ‚

5 simple & nutritious additions for busy breastfeeding moms šŸ¤šŸ¼ because sometimes nourishing yourself needs to be quick & actually realistic…

1ļøāƒ£ add ground flax to your energy balls. an easy way to add fiber & healthy fats to a grab & go snack. DM me ENERGY if you want my favourite recipe!

2ļøāƒ£ whisk cottage cheese into scrambled eggs šŸ³makes them extra fluffy while adding a boost of protein to this already easy meal

3ļøāƒ£ opt a high-protein milk for cereal or granola šŸ„›
one of my favourite late-night breastfeeding snacks! takes 30 seconds to put together & helps make a carb-based snack more balanced

4ļøāƒ£ keep electrolytes within reach šŸ’§staying well hydrated is important while breastfeeding. keep beside your bed, in your diaper bag, in the car…

5ļøāƒ£ stir protein powder into Greek yogurt 🄣 one of my favourite treat-like snacks! add in some berries, cinnamon, granola or a drizzle of nut butter for satisfying protein-rich snack

ā˜‘ļø the goal isn’t perfect nutrition. it’s about finding little ways to nourish yourself that fit into this season of motherhood.

2 months ago, I became a mom. šŸ’•

as a nutrition practitioner, I’ve spent years helping people optimize their health…to eat well, move their bodies, & build sustainable habits. but postpartum has reminded me that health isn’t always about doing more. sometimes it’s about slowing down enough to notice what’s already enough.

my meals have changed. they’re simpler. less picture-perfect. often times reheated. most times eaten with one hand. but they’ve also become more intentional because they’re fueling me to care for someone else.

my workouts have changed. instead of chasing personal bests, some days my exercise is walking circles around the living room while gently bouncing my baby. those kind of moments have become some of the most meaningful movement I’ve ever done.

postpartum wellness isn’t a checklist. it’s being present. it’s sitting in the contact naps instead of rushing onto the next task. it’s giving myself permission to eat, move, & live differently than I did before becoming a mom.

life isn’t meant to be optimized every minute of every day. I think that’s the kind of wellness we need to talk about more.

if you’re a new mom navigating this season too & trying to find your way back to feeling like you again - I see you. 🫶 you deserve to feel nourished, energized, & supported. DM me MAMA & let’s chat about how nutrition coaching can support you.

šŸ•ļø healthful camping swaps that don’t feel restrictive…

camping is all about slowing down & spending time outdoors…not stressing over every meal or feeling like some indulgence will deter you from your goals.

here’s 7 simple swaps to feel more energized without sacrificing your fav camping foods:

🌭 1. pair your hot dog or burger with raw veggies instead of just potato chips. cucumber slices, snap peas, or a bagged salad are all easy to pack. keep the burger & ADD some colour to your plate
šŸæ 2. swap one bag of chips with plain air-popped popcorn. still satisfies the craving for a crunchy snack, but boosts in more fiber & volume for fullness
šŸ« 3. upgrade your s’mores! enjoy this summertime classic & add some fresh berries on the side for a nice little dessert
🄣 4. start off the day with a protein breakfast. rather than sugary pastries - try scrambled eggs, single Greek yogurt containers with berries, or oatmeal packets cooked with protein milk & topped with nuts/seeds
🄜 5. build a better snack box. perfect for grazing or traveling to your destination. include things like cheese strings, beef jerky, turkey bites, roasted chickpeas, trail mix, raw veggies
šŸ’§ 6. make water your go-to hydration choice. bring a reusable water bottle & save the sugary drinks for a special treat
šŸ” 7. addition before subtraction. ask yourself: ā€œwhat can I add to make this a little more balanced?ā€ maybe it’s a piece of fruit like an apple with a handful of nuts as a snack, or a bunch of baby carrots with your lunch

which swap is the easiest for you to make on your next camping trip?šŸ‘‡

šŸ’ did you know that mid-July to mid-August is Canadian Cherry Month with dark sweet & yellow-red varietals being in their prime in BC & Ontario šŸ˜

summer cherries are a delicious treat, that also provide powerful nutritional benefits!

rich in anthocyanins - antioxidant compounds that give their beautiful, vibrant colour. these help protect cells from oxidative stress, support exercise recovery, & can help reduce inflammation.

one of the coolest (& lesser known) benefits of tart cherries, in particular is that they naturally contain melatonin. research suggests that incorporating tart cherries or tart cherry juice in the evening may help improve sleep quality for some people. šŸ’¤

with rising summertime temps sometimes we get cravings for cold drinks & frozen treats!

this is a fleeting season & there’s nothing wrong with enjoying ice cream on occasion. however,Ā summer is also a great season to fill up your plates with foods that will naturally help keep you hydrated, energized, & feeling your best… āž”ļø

1. Water-Rich Produce

• add fresh/frozen berries to your water bottle or keep a large icy pitcher in the fridge
• toss cubed watermelon into a salad with feta, fresh mint, & cucumber
• snack on a colourful variety of sliced veggies paired with hummus
• smoothies with frozen fruit (add some Greek yogurt or protein powder for a more satisfying snack)

frozen fruit satisfies sweet cravings while also giving you more fiber - which your gut will thank you for!

especially on those really hot days. plus, after long walks, hiking, gardening, or exercise classes...our bodies lose more than just water through sweat.

clean electrolyte drinks or foods containing natural electrolytes are a great ways to recalibrate your system in the heat!
