📌 Why can the same number of units look completely different on two people?

This is something many patients don't realize.

Two people can receive the same number of units of a neuromodulator in the same general area - and still have very different results.

Why?

Because we are not treating numbers. We are treating anatomy.

♦️ Muscle strength

Some people naturally have stronger facial muscles than others. A dose that creates noticeable relaxation in one person may have a much more subtle effect in someone with stronger muscle activity.

♦️ Your individual anatomy

Muscle size, position, depth, and the relationship between different facial muscles vary from person to person.

Even small anatomical differences can influence the final result.

♦️ Your facial expressions

Do you raise your eyebrows when you speak? Frown frequently? Smile very strongly?

The way you naturally use your facial muscles matters just as much as how they look when your face is at rest.

♦️ Age and skin quality

The same muscle movement can create very different wrinkles depending on skin thickness, elasticity, collagen loss, and whether lines are already present at rest.

♦️ Previous injections

Your history matters too.

Someone receiving neuromodulators regularly may respond differently from someone having them for the first time.

♦️ Injection technique

And this is extremely important.

It's not simply how many units are used.

Where, how deeply, and how those units are distributed can significantly influence the result.

One important thing to remember...

More units don't automatically mean better results.

My goal is not to choose a number from a standard formula.

My goal is to understand your anatomy, your muscle movement, your facial expressions, and your expectations and create an individualized plan.

Because the same number of units should never mean the same plan for every face.

Your face is unique. Your approach should be too.

🇨🇦 One of the unexpected gifts of working in Interior Health was the chance to be close to nature.

Spotting deer or birds between shifts reminded me to slow down, breathe, and reconnect.

My path has taken me from rural hospitals to medical aesthetics in the city, and while these worlds look different, they share the same heart: caring for people.

Whether it's in a hospital room or an aesthetics clinic, my goal is always to improve quality of life with compassion and care.

Really grateful for both journeys and the little moments that made them special.

Your eye suddenly doesn’t close completely after an Botulinum Products injection?

Or one eyelid looks lower than the other?

Why can this happen?

After treatment with Neuro-modulators / botulinum toxin products, temporary asymmetry or eyelid ptosis can occasionally occur. More rarely, some patients may notice incomplete eyelid closure.

Why?

It may be related to the diffusion of the medication, individual anatomy, dose, injection location, or technique.

So, how can we reduce the risk?

Choose a licensed and appropriately trained medical professional.
Have a proper medical consultation before treatment.
Tell your provider about your medications and medical conditions.
And follow your post-procedure instructions carefully.

If something doesn’t look or feel right after your treatment, don’t panic, but don’t ignore it either.

Contact your treating healthcare professional for assessment. Many localized effects are temporary.

Rare, but important to know:

If you develop progressive or generalized muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing in addition to eye lid drop, please do not wait. Call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department immediately to rule out Botulism.

These situations are extremely rare, but they require urgent medical assessment.

Be informed. Be safe. And know when to seek help.

Have you heard about PDRN?
