You've had a few better nights of sleep, and you're finally beginning to feel hopeful.

Then one difficult night comes along, and suddenly you're wondering…

Did I do something wrong?
Why did tapping help yesterday but not tonight?
Am I right back where I started?

💙 One difficult night doesn't mean you've lost your progress.

When we've struggled with sleep for a long time, it's easy to turn every night into a test we're trying to pass.

Even the tools we use to support ourselves, like tapping or meditation, can become another source of pressure.

But what if progress isn't about sleeping perfectly every night?

What if it's also about learning to meet ourselves with more understanding and compassion when sleep is difficult?

In my latest YouTube video, I'm sharing some of my own experience and exploring how we can begin to take the pressure off sleep.

Tonight, if you find yourself awake and wishing you could fall asleep, try offering yourself a different question.

Instead of:
"How do I make myself sleep?"
Gently ask:
"What might help me feel a little more supported right now?"

Maybe it's noticing the comfort of your pillow.
Maybe it's looking around the room and allowing your eyes to rest somewhere pleasant.
Maybe it's acknowledging that you're having a difficult moment without turning it into something you must immediately solve.

There isn't one right response.
The invitation is simply to begin including yourself in the experience.

💙 In our November Monthly Integration Call, we'll continue exploring how understanding the nervous system can change the way we relate to sleep.

Do you find yourself preparing for what might go wrong—even when things feel quiet?

Replaying conversations. Overthinking your next step. Trying to keep everyone else comfortable.

If this feels familiar, you’re welcome to explore my book, You Don’t Have to Brace for the Next Moment. 🌿

Through a gentle nervous system lens, I invite you to notice what your body may be holding and meet your responses with more curiosity and compassion.

You can take your time with these pages. My hope is that they help you feel less alone and understand yourself a little more kindly.

You can explore these pages at your own pace.

Have you ever felt completely tired, yet the moment you get into bed, your mind seems to wake up?

You might start thinking about tomorrow, replaying conversations, or noticing that your body just doesn't seem ready to settle.

From a nervous system perspective, there may be more happening beneath the surface.

💙 Here are a few things that may be influencing your sleep:
🌿 An active mind – Thoughts, worries, and unfinished mental tasks may keep your nervous system engaged.
🌿 A busy or stressful day – Your body may still be responding to the demands and experiences of the day, even when everything around you has become quiet.
🌿 Unprocessed emotions – Feelings
🌿 A nervous system that's still on alert – Sometimes, your body may need more cues of safety and support before it can begin to settle.

Rather than asking, "Why can't I just sleep?" what if we gently explored, "What might my nervous system be responding to?"

Understanding these patterns can help us begin relating to our sleep with more curiosity and compassion, instead of frustration and pressure.

The day is finished.

You've turned off the lights, gotten comfortable, and you're ready for rest.

But your mind is still planning.
Your body feels alert.
And sleep doesn't seem to be coming.

From a nervous system perspective, being in bed doesn't always mean the body has shifted into a state that supports rest.

Sometimes we're still carrying the demands, uncertainty, or activation of the day.

Rather than asking, "Why can't I just relax?" we can begin asking, "What might my nervous system be experiencing right now?"

That small shift can open the door to a different kind of relationship with sleep.

💙 We'll be exploring this and more in November's Monthly Integration Call.

Sometimes, we become so focused on how far we still have to go that we forget to recognize how much we've already learned. 💙

Maybe your sleep hasn't changed in the way you hoped.

But perhaps you're beginning to understand your nervous system a little better. Maybe you're noticing patterns you hadn't recognized before, responding to difficult nights with more compassion, or discovering what helps you feel supported.

These moments of awareness matter, too. 🌿

As we bring together everything we've explored inside the Better Sleep Community, there's no need to measure your progress against where you thought you would be.

You can simply begin with where you are today.

✨ A gentle invitation: Take a moment to reflect on this question:

What do I understand about myself now that I didn't before?

If you feel comfortable, share one thing you've learned about yourself in the comments. We'd love to hear your reflection.

What if understanding your sleep begins with understanding your nervous system?

When sleep becomes difficult, it's natural to look for ways to fix it. We try different routines, search for answers, and sometimes find ourselves putting even more pressure on getting a good night's rest.
But sleep isn't always just about what happens at bedtime.

Our nervous system carries the experiences, stress, and demands of our day. And sometimes, even when we're ready to rest, our body may still be holding onto a sense of activation.

💙 This November, I invite you to join me for our Monthly Integration Call: Exploring Sleep Through a Nervous System Lens

Together, we'll explore a different way of understanding sleep—one rooted in curiosity, compassion, and learning how to support ourselves rather than trying harder to make sleep happen. This is a space to learn, reflect, ask questions, and begin seeing your relationship with sleep through a gentler lens.

I still have nights when I wake up. I still have nights when my thoughts are active. And sometimes, what’s happening in my life still shows up in my sleep.

But something important has changed.
I no longer see those nights as proof that something has gone wrong.

In Video 5, the final part of my 5-part sleep story, I’m sharing what my sleep looks like today and how understanding my nervous system has changed not only my relationship with sleep, but also my relationship with myself.

✨ Watch when it feels right for you.

When we reach the end of something, it can be easy to measure ourselves by what has changed—or what hasn’t.

But there are other ways to recognize movement.

Maybe you notice your nervous-system state sooner.
Maybe you understand why certain nights feel more difficult.
Maybe you have language for something you couldn’t explain before.
Maybe you know one or two ways to offer yourself support.

Or perhaps you’re simply beginning to relate to your sleep differently.
Integration doesn’t require having everything figured out. Sometimes it begins with recognizing what you understand now that you didn’t before. 🌿
