Those little fat pads under your eyes? Completely normal. 👀

And before you blame every shadow, puff, or hollow on “being tired,” under-eye appearance is a lot more anatomical than that.

We naturally have fat compartments around the eyes that help cushion and support the area. As we age, changes in collagen, skin thickness, elasticity, bone structure, and the tissues supporting those fat pads can make them look more noticeable.

Translation: sometimes you can sleep eight glorious hours and still look like you have been personally victimized by your inbox. 😂

Here is where skincare can help, but also where expectations matter.

Sometimes all that moisturizer is sitting on top of a layer of built-up dead skin.

And this is why I still love microdermabrasion in fall and winter when it’s appropriate for the skin.

It gives controlled physical exfoliation that can help smooth rough texture, lift away surface buildup, and leave dull-looking skin looking fresher and more polished.

Because Edmonton winter skin can get DRY dry. 😭

But the answer isn’t automatically scrubbing harder at home or layering five more products on top.

Sometimes we need to exfoliate strategically, then focus on putting hydration and barrier support back into the skin.

Dermaplaning gets reduced to “removing peach fuzz” way too often.

Yes, it removes vellus hair, but it also gently exfoliates the surface of the skin by removing built-up dead skin cells.

That can leave the skin looking smoother, brighter, and more polished, and yes, makeup tends to sit beautifully afterwards. ✨

And no, your facial hair is not going to magically come back thicker because you dermaplaned it.
