Last week, something very special arrived at Allen Gray! It is the "Hop" by Lu, an interactive wall-mounted projector.

Based out of Quebec, Lu is a company that began creating play-based technology for children to use in physical education classrooms. They've recently began tailoring their designs for seniors in continuing care.

Allen Gray is the first continuing care site in Alberta to receive this new equipment. We're very excited to start using it for resident centered recreation programming!

🥕Third floor residents enjoyed a hearty harvest lunch this afternoon! 🥕

To celebrate the end of the growing season, we enjoyed a homemade beef and vegetable soup featuring the vegetables that came out of our very own garden! Lunch programs like this offer our residents a chance to enjoy dining in a relaxed social setting while supporting their nutritional goals.

🎨✨ Resident Craft Sale Was a Hit! ✨🎨

What a wonderful day celebrating the creativity, talents, and hard work of our residents! From colourful hand-painted rocks and beautiful lighthouses to handmade cards, baked treats, tie-dye creations, paintings, and so many unique handmade treasures—there was truly something for everyone. 💕🖌️

Most importantly, the sale gave our residents an opportunity to showcase their talents, share their creativity, and connect with our community. Seeing their pride and excitement as they shared their creations made the day extra special. 🥰
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out, shopped, encouraged, and supported our residents! Your support means so much. ❤️

All proceeds will go back toward resident programming and purchasing supplies to continue creating meaningful, engaging, and resident-centred Recreation Therapy experiences. 🌿🎨

🧡 Honouring Truth and Reconciliation through connection, learning, and shared stories.

A big thank you to Kokum Linda for spending the afternoon with our residents, sharing her knowledge, experiences, stories, and culture—and treating us to her homemade bannock!

One especially meaningful moment was when a resident gifted Kokum Linda a piece of Indigenous artwork he had created with his students during his years as a teacher. He shared the story behind the artwork and how much it meant to his students—a beautiful reminder of the memories and connections that stay with us through the years.

Moments like these bring back memories, open conversations, and help us continue to learn from one another. 🧡

✨ Movement, connection & meaningful engagement with the OBIE! 💚

As part of our Recreation Therapy programming, residents have been enjoying time with our OBIE interactive projector—a fun and engaging tool that brings movement, cognitive stimulation, and social connection right into our common spaces. 🎨🧩

Whether it’s reaching, responding to the activities, working together, or simply sharing a few laughs around the table, the OBIE provides opportunities for residents to participate at their own pace while supporting movement, engagement, and connection. 😊

For us, Recreation Therapy is about more than keeping busy—it’s about creating meaningful experiences that support quality of life, encourage choice and participation, and bring joy to everyday moments. ❤️🌟

🧡 Truth & Reconciliation: A Time to Learn, Listen & Reflect 🧡

Join us on Thursday, October 1st at 2:00pm for a special presentation with Linda Anderson and an afternoon filled with conversation, learning, and reflection.

Together, we’ll have the opportunity to learn more about Indigenous culture, history, and experiences, listen to Indigenous perspectives, and take time to reflect on the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.

While September 30th is a day of remembrance and reflection, reconciliation is an ongoing journey—one that begins with continuing to learn, listen, and understand.

We invite our residents, families, and staff to join us for this meaningful afternoon as we honour the past, learn from one another, and continue walking the path toward reconciliation together. 🧡
