Body Labs - The Human Body, Explained The Human Body is Weird. That's the whole point. Building confident yoga teachers through anatomical insight + nervous system education without the scalpel!

I teach anatomy for movement facilitators ( yoga teacher, pilates instructors, and body nerds of all kinds) through the lens of function, curiosity, and embodied science.

The first time I put on a lab coat and walked into a dissection lab blew up everything I thought I knew about the human body.

Did you know, the nerves don't live in isolation away from all the other tissues??? 🤯
Did you know your diapragm is intimately attached (actually fused) to some of your abdominal organs? 🤯
Did you know the skeleton is not the framework for the soft tissues, but rather the soft tissues are the framework for the skeleton? 🤯

In fact... nothing lives in isolation in the human body.
Here is what I learned in the anatomy labs:
Your body is 1 WHOLE AND COMPLETE SYSTEM.
Your body doesn't know it has a respiratory system. It doesn't know it has bones. It doesn't differentiate between the right and left side. Your body sees itself as a whole and complete entity. Period.

Seeing the human body in dissection taught me that. My donor bodies taught me that.

If you've ever felt like the diagrams, images, drawings etc in the textbooks or online leave something behind... you're not wrong.

Come learn from the human body in my upcoming 4 week series Dissection + Movement Labs.

More details in the events tab. Or comment below and I'll send the info your way.
We start Oct 27... yup, one week away.

Stan and I have some exciting news!
There is still space left in my upcoming Dissection + Movement Series.

Have you ever felt like the drawings and diagrams leave out some of the context of the human body? You aren't alone in that! The first time I witnessed the inner workings of the human body, my understanding of anatomy completely changed... and continues to!

The human body is not made up of "parts". It is a whole and complete system, in and of itself.

If you ever wanted to have a better understanding, deeper awareness, and more awe for this body we experience life through, then you should join me for this 4-part series. Together, we will watch recorded lab footage of real human dissection specimens, take our time discussing what we are seeing, apply it to how we move, and have space to ask lots of questions.

Here is what you need to know:
Dates
Tuesday, Oct 27
Tuesday, Nov 3
Tuesday, Nov 10
Tuesday, Nov 17

Time
7:15 - 9:30PM

Location
Private space in St. Albert. Address will be provided upon registration.

Advance registration is required.

I have waited years to share this offering with you... join me as I lean into my nerdiness and curiosity of the human form.

These cards were not part of my business plan… Yet here they are.
They weren’t on my radar. I certainly wasn’t looking for a product to create or brainstorming anything other than more human body courses.

But one day, I sat down and started making them.
And the strange thing is… They just came.

The anatomy. The reflections. The little invitations to notice the bodies we live in every day.

After more than 20 years of studying the human body, from the autopsy table to the movement studio, I have a LOT of things I could say about an anatomy. And apparently, I had a whole collection of things waiting to be said in 41 cards.

Here’s the crazy thing. This collection of cards has been one of the easiest things I’ve created in a very, very long time.
Not because they didn’t take work. They definitely did.

But the ideas were already there. They were ready. I just had to give them somewhere to land.

I think these cards have actually been waiting to be created for a while… I just didn’t know it yet.

And now they’re out in the world. Over 40 decks have already found their way into people’s hands over multiple countries, which is a pretty wild thing to say about something that wasn’t even a part of the plan.

Maybe this is a reminder that not everything worth creating starts with a strategy.
Sometimes you just have to sit down and see what happens.

If you’re curious, From the Body is available now at the link in my bio.

Its been an interesting week for Jillian and myself (yes... the G/Jillians) as we both witnessed the fullness of LIFE. The unexpected. The messiness. A family member's illness and a loved one's death. We actually sat down on Sunday (in separate provinces) to discuss the possibility of cancelling this event.
But here is where that moment of honesty led us: "how do we honour ourselves and our energy when life gets messy? How do we step forward in leadership when our own foundations have shifted?"

This past week has reminded us both WHY we are passionate about sharing Recalibrate. Because understanding your own nervous system and recognizing the patterns that keep you in survival mode can lead to practical ways of navigating life and leadership differently.

Recalibrate is a new way to approach your business, leadership, and perhaps even your life. Not by doing more, pushing harder, or finding a way to hold everything together. But by understanding what is happening below the surface, reconnecting with what matters to you, and learning to lead from a place that feels more sustainable.
And the truth is, we don't get to wait until life settles down to practice this. We are learning this right alongside you.

Maybe that's part of what leadership really is. Not having it all together, but being willing to pause, be honest about the messy stuff, and make a conscious choice about how we move forward.

So, we are moving forward with Recalibrate. Not because the stars are aligned but because we believe in the power of community, connection, and recalibration.

The doors to Recalibrate close tonight. I would love to see you there, but more importantly I hope you give yourself permission to be human in whatever life is currently asking of you.

Because (if there is one thing this week has taught me) LIFE is going to LIFE. And I want to live it... not just get through it.
