Mark your calendars, our 3rd annual Meet the Fleet Event is scheduled for 24 October at 12:30-3:30pm. This brings together all of Town of Edson first responders - Edson Fire Department , Edson RCMP, Associated Ambulance , & Edson Peace officers. It allows children, youth and adults with diverse needs a safe opportunity to interact with people in uniforms, go into their vehicles, ask questions and for our First Responders to meet the families. When an emergency happens we want to ensure that our loved ones with disabilities are safe and that our first responders may be familiar with them. Everyone welcome.

Thanksgiving is a reminder that gratitude isn’t always found in the big moments, but often in the little things we sometimes take for granted.

The laughter around the table, the familiar faces, the quiet moments at home, the people who check in on us, and the memories we continue to make with the ones we love.

Life isn’t always perfect, and not every season is easy. Some of us are celebrating, some are missing someone, and others are simply doing their best to get through the day. Wherever this season finds you, we hope you can find something to be thankful for, even if it’s something small.

May we remember to slow down, appreciate the people beside us, hold our loved ones a little closer, and never underestimate the beauty of an ordinary day spent with the people who matter most.

Wishing everyone a Thanksgiving filled with love, peace, and a grateful heart. 🧡

October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month.

Dysautonomia, also called autonomic dysfunction, is a group of disorders that affect the autonomic nervous system.

Dysautonomia can occur in people with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD). Most research on dysautonomia in EDS and HSD has focused on hypermobile EDS (hEDS) and HSD. Dysautonomia has also been reported in people with other types of EDS, including classical EDS (cEDS) and vascular EDS (vEDS).

There are different types of dysautonomia with different symptoms. In hEDS and HSD, dysautonomia commonly presents as a form of orthostatic intolerance. “Orthostasis” means to stand upright, so orthostatic intolerance refers to symptoms that occur due to standing up or being upright.

The two most common types of orthostatic intolerance are:

1️⃣ Orthostatic hypotension (OH) — low blood pressure on being upright.
2️⃣ Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) — an abnormal increase in heart rate when standing without a drop in blood pressure.

Symptoms of dysautonomia include:

Tachycardia (fast heart rate)
● Palpitations (feeling the heart racing or pounding)
● Hypotension (low blood pressure)
● Lightheadedness
● Presyncope (a sense of being about to faint)
● Syncope (fainting)
● Blurred vision
😶‍🌫️Brain fog (problems with concentration and memory)
● Headaches
● Chest pain
● Shakiness
💤Chronic fatigue
● Exercise intolerance and feeling worse after exercise
● Swelling and/or discoloration of the legs after standing for short periods of time
● Cold, discolored hands and feet
● Temperature dysregulation
🥵Sweating
● Sleep disturbance
● Gastrointestinal issues
● Nausea
🚽Bladder dysfunction
