A question I still get all the time - do you work on dogs too?
YES, I love treating doggos!

I completed a post-grad canine course a few years ago and am happy to see your pup either in your home or at mine.

I've had dogs most of my life (worked in the industry for many years before osteopathy) and am active in sports with my dogs too.

This means I'm aware of the demands placed on sports and working dogs and am happy to be part of a team to help them stay sound and happy in their jobs!

I also am a huge advocate for proactive care for any canine, including family pets with more easy lifestyles. Providing maintenance routines, just like with veterinary care, can help catch small 'things' before they become big (and more expensive!) 'things'.

What a weekend 😍

I was so honoured and excited when Alexa Linton first asked about collaborating earlier this year.
"Deep listening: Dialoguing with the tissues, the fluids, and the horse" was all about working 'in the ease' and that theme was sure felt in every way the entire two days.

We had an incredible group of 7 practitioners, each with their own amazing skillset, and there was no shortage of impactful discussion, intriguing questions, and meaningful moments.

So grateful to each and every person who joined us, and most of all to Alexa and her crew at Raven Moon Farm. This definitely won't be the last collaboration, and that makes my heart so very happy πŸ’š

Last week was a super fun final trip for this year in the Kootenays!

Briggs the Clyde still takes home the rights to the tallest/heaviest client I have πŸ€ͺ

I had the pleasure of having Shalen, a human osteo, join me for a day of shadowing. She is working on her animal osteo certification - it was great to nerd out and chat about findings with her.

Next trip will be March sometime, weather dependent!

Kamloops, and lower mainland dates TBA for early October.

This sweet mare loves the surefoot pads.

It's a wrap for day 4 of my Kootenay trip! The weather has been perfect and it's been a great mix of familiar and new faces to work with 😊

I recently joined Alexa Linton for another brilliant, geeky conversation - this time we touched on what it means to work "into the ease" and chatted about our upcoming practitioner workshop on this topic.

Please share with anyone who may be interested! We have a few spots left.

If you love geeky deep dives into equine therapy, phsyiology and anatomy, this is an episode for you! Allie Plaschka and I are back together to share about our upcoming collaborative workshop (Sept 19-20) and to unpack our main course topic, what it means to treat horses "into the ease." We break do...

One of the kindest things we can do for our horses is to let them be (horses).

Let them have choice. Choice of where to eat, where to nap, where to sun bathe. We control so much of their lives already - allow them some agency in their day to day lives.

Let them forage. I have insulin resistant horses in my herd but they too, still have room to roam and browse, safe from lush grasses that are too rich for them. Even if you don't have a large parcel of land - take them for walks and find some edible plants that are safe to nibble. Trickle feed their hay and add straw if needed to ensure they have something to nibble on between feedings.

Let them forge friendships.
Horses find safety in a herd. The bonds they form are incredible and the day-to-day interactions with friends are meaningful and important - just as how community is integral for humans as well.

Let them move!!
Over different terrain, varied footing... let them use their bodies and keep their joints and digestive system well oiled. Movement is lubrication for every part of their system and they should have the ability to move around the other 23 hours a day when we're not with them.

The healthiest horses in my practice are the ones that have these freedoms. Let's make sure we're meeting their needs first before we go try to fix what's "broken" in them 😌
