Ability Foot Clinic Ability Foot Clinic specializes in medical foot-care procedures and the high-risk Diabetic foot, serving Central and Western Newfoundland & Labrador.

The clinic treats over 2000 patients and has been operating for 10 years. The Ability Foot Care clinic is still accepting new patients who need medical and Diabetic foot care management services. The clinic is located on 70 Hardy Avenue, Suite C, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL and operates Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Phone: (709) 489-0677. Regular maintenance for foot health and the prevention of complications is an issue of great concern as health care providers focus on the growing numbers of senior citizens in our population, particularly those with vascular/circulatory issues and especially those with Diabetes. Studies have demonstrated that the prevention of complications and maintenance of healthy feet serve to enhance seniors’ quality of life and increase both levels of activity and community involvement (Helfand, 2003). The Registered Nurse with medical foot care management education and training is an important interdisciplinary team member in the provision of foot health services and is in a position to provide valuable care and education to the patient while focusing on health promotion and disease prevention. Strong assessment skills are offered to determine the level of care needed and the need for referral to a physician or appropriate specialist. At Ability Foot Care we offer:
• Complete physical assessment and examination of the feet
• Identification of treatment needs to determine individualized care plans
• Patient education
• Patient referral to interdisciplinary health care providers if needed
• Medical procedures to relieve pain and discomfort from foot and nail pathologies
• Basic care of the foot and nails

Please refer patients who are having any problems with their feet or if you suspect they need foot care by a Registered Nurse.

- Important nationwide data coming out of Australia from our friend Jonathan Shaw and the team. We often talk about the burden of diabetes, but this study puts a hard number on the "time toxicity" of hospitalization. The Bed-Day Burden Let’s look at the raw numbers. People with diabetes are rackin...

- Even as amputations stabilize or reduce in many parts of the world, more troubling is the morbidity and mortality associated with diabetic foot ulcers. Bottom line: DFUs are associated with a 2.3-fold greater risk for year over year mortality than people without DFU. Congratulations to Saluja, Jud...

- We often view lower extremity amputation (LEA) as the culmination of a rapid clinical decline, but new data suggests the warning signs are flashing nearly a decade in advance. A large 10-year national study out of Denmark recently identified specific healthcare and sociodemographic markers that ca...

- For years, we’ve treated Painful Diabetic Neuropathy (PDN) largely by trying to turn down the volume on the pain. While relief is critical, the "holy grail" has always been something more: stopping the damage or, dare we dream, reversing it. We have just published the design for a new multicente...

Charcot neuroarthropathy remains a limb-threatening condition, but evolving surgical strategies are shifting the focus from rigid fixation to functional limb preservation. Emerging techniques—such as the “flipper foot” construct and selective joint fusion—aim to balance stability with contro...

- Gavish et al. flip photobiomodulation into a diagnostic stress test. With dynamic thermal imaging, DFUs warm by ~2.1 °C after PBM while venous ulcers barely budge — and colder DFUs respond most. A clean proof-of-concept for precision triage of chronic leg ulcers. A wound is cold for a reason. I...
