Allergies can affect some of us the entire year. However, for most of us who suffer, we have a particular season to "look forward" to:

-In the early spring, tree pollen is the main culprit.
-During the summer months, grasses are the cause.
-And finally, during the fall, weeds are the top offender.

If you do suffer, and are like most people, your immune system is overreacting to an allergen, which ramps up bodily defences, causing an over expression of certain proteins (cytokines) and histamines.

Although it's not very easy to completely rid ourselves of an allergy (because our body has been genetically programmed to react), we can, in many cases reduce the severity of our symptoms to the point where they do not affect our lives adversely.

Here are 3 suggestions to help improve your body's reaction to allergens.

1. First, you should take out any foods which you know cause a disturbance in your digestion, regularity, joint comfort or energy levels, as these are most likely causing immune system disturbances
-If you have done this, then further refine your nutrition by taking out other common culprits such as wheat, gluten containing foods, cow's dairy, soy, corn and other common offenders.
-sticking to whole foods high in vitamins and minerals (veggies, greens, fruit) will help quell your immune system response.
-If you are not eating the recommended 6-10 servings of veggies and veggies, then the next best thing is a powder from whole, organic food sources:
https://www.bioticscan.com/1111

2. Once you have helped bring down your inflammatory response with the first step, you can try controlling your cytokine production even further with the use of right strands of probiotics, such as these:
https://www.bioticscan.com/1285
-These are especially beneficial if you suffer from digestive issues, which you think may be connected to other bodily ailments.

3. If your histamine production is through the roof and your airways are constricted, try using high doses of vitamin C.
-Taking 1000-2000mg every 3-4 waking hours can do wonders.
-If you don't like to take it that often, try taking a buffered form like this one:
https://www.bioticscan.com/1152

Try these steps and see if you can take away the pain and suffering caused by environmental allergens.

If you have any questions or need help choosing a product, send us a message or drop into our shop!

Thanks for reading and have a great #weekend!

P.S. Environmental chemical exposure can cause allergic reactions (such as skin rashes) in many individuals with weakened immune systems. If this sounds like you, changing your nutrition is CRUCIAL! -Also, don't forget to drink plenty of fluids and add electrolytes to your filtered water:
http://www.kt-solutions.com/shop/synerplex-revive-electrolyte-powder-copy/
-Adding glycine to the mix is another great way to help rid your body of chemicals that could be causing these reactions:

-This is common among individuals who work around chemicals daily.

Product: Nutri-Clear NEW ADVANCED FORMULATION ACTIVATES AMPK!

Are you planning on performing a "Detox" this summer?

There are too many out there to go over, and to many things you can do "wrong" based on where you are starting from and what you actually need to be doing with regards to your overall health.

So to make things easy, we will go over an "Are you prepared for a detox" checklist to help you make sure you are ready to take this step. Then, we will offer some simple recommendations if you believe you are ready.

1)Have you been eating mostly (90%) whole, organic, naturally raised, unprocessed, foods for at least 6 months (and maybe even a year, depending on your health when you started).
-This includes at least 6-10 servings of veggies/fruits, 3 servings of high quality complete protein, enough whole food carbs (rice, potatoes, fruit, etc) to maintain intense activity, and enough healthy/essential fats to stay full and maintain skin and digestive health.
-A good indicator of this is being able to train hard, 4 days/week, without suffering (and hopefully thriving!) in other parts of your life.

2)Do you make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of pure, filtered water every day (more if you exercise).

3)Are you making sure to engage is physical activity that is at least intense enough to make you sweat and showering soon after.

4)Do you get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep in a dark, cool room with no electricity, no sounds, and wake up feeling refreshed?
NOTE: It is hard to be perfect here, so the main point is that you feel you are recovering and growing from the last day's stresses.

5)Are you dealing with all physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual stress in your life?
-If you don't think these need to be dealt with before your body can let go of other chemicals, think again!

Ok, so now, if you have accomplished all these things, you should think about adding the following supplements

1)Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement:
-The detoxification process is very complex and requires many different nutrients, so it is absolutely essential to have this there, ESPECIALLY if you did not check off #1 in the check list.
-Here is an excellent one that will cover all your bases!
http://thorneresearch.ca/multi-encap/

2)Electrolyte Supplement
-Even if you are taking your multivitamin/mineral, you should put this into your filtered water, because water is essential for detoxification, and electrolytes will help the water do it's job more efficiently, without stripping minerals from your body.
-We love this one, and so do all of our clients!:
http://www.kt-solutions.com/shop/synerplex-revive-electrolyte-powder-copy/
-And for more info on the importance of electrolytes, check this out!:
http://www.kt-solutions.com/read-more-about-electrolytes/

3)Vitamin C
-Yup! This cheap, and easy to find supplement can help increase your glutathione levels, which is often called the "master detoxifier" in the body.
-The great thing is that you will also get help with your immune system, recovery from exercise, allergies, tissue repair, and the list goes on......
-Good old Ascorbic acid is usually all you need, but if you want something that won't bother your stomach or doesn't need to be taken as often, try this:
https://www.bioticscan.com/1152

4)Glycine
-Most people haven't heard about this one, as it isn't very cool, sexy or expensive.
-HOWEVER, it's one of the reasons why bone broth is touted as a miracle cure, and it can be taken on it's own without creating an imbalance in other amino acids (unlike other more popular amino acids taking up space in supplement stores).
-The only "issue" would be taking to much at once, because it can cause a very quick detoxification of the liver and trip to the washroom (if you get my drift) and it should be avoided by those who suffer from parkinson's as it will worsen symptoms.

5)Nutriclear Detox Shake
-This is used to get pretty much everything we just talked about in one easy to drink shake.
-It can be used as part of an advanced detox/weight loss program, or added as a meal replacement.
-Just make sure you start with 1/4-1/2 scoop and access your tolerance.
https://www.bioticscan.com/6400

The great thing about all of these is that they can be used long term, because they SUPPORT what your body is already doing, without overdoing anything.

If you have any more questions, just ask, but if you are not sure if you are ready for a detox, it might be safe to check with (and be properly evaluated by) your doctor, naturpath, nutritionist, dietician or trainer.

REMEMBER, the best detox is a healthy lifestyle and these supplements are only icing on the cake!

Thanks for reading and have a great #transformationthursday!

Magnesium CitraMate - Thorne Research Canada

Do you suffer from poor sleep, constipation, high blood sugar, cravings, lack of energy, mood swings, cardiovascular issues, or pretty much any other problem?

Well you should probably get that fully evaluated.

HOWEVER, we can tell you, from all our experience and the information out there, that considering magnesium as an aid to help you would be a great idea!

Although we don't believe that any individual nutrient can sustain your entire health for any long period (which many "experts" would have you believe), because they all play in concert together, Magnesium is involved in many bodily processes and, ironically enough, is one of the minerals that is most absent in our lives.

Why is it lacking?

Because we are under stress (physical, mental, emotional), we do not have as much in our soils, we ingest foods that both block it's absorption and cause its excretion, and we do not consume enough nutrient dense foods including greens, nuts, seeds, legumes and dark chocolate (yes, I said chocolate!....dark!).

Taking a Good Multivitamin and eating whole/organic foods, can help you with most nutrients, but in the case of magnesium, IF you have any of the above symptoms, you might want to consider taking 200-600mg more/day.

Although its best to rotate the magnesiums you use, in most cases, The Healthy Gym carries multiple types of magnesiums, just incase someone is in the need of a more specific form.

1) Magnesium Citramate
-This includes magnesium Citrate and Malate, which are both crucial for proper energy production, and musclular pain/discomfort.
http://thorneresearch.ca/magnesium-citramate/

2)Magnesium Glycinate
-To help with recovery, intestinal motility, bone remineralization and relaxation
https://www.bioticscan.com/1742

3)Magnesium Orotate
-This form has been shown to help the heart's ability to recover from both chronic and acute stressors, ESPECIALLY when levels of cortisol (our primary stress hormone) is up!
https://www.bioticscan.com/1707

Lastly, for those of you who are taking lots of calcium, because you have "signs" of osteoporosis, or taking Vitamin D because your blood levels were low, remember that magnesium will help BOTH of these nutrients do their job efficiently and safety!

If you have any more questions about this "wonder" nutrient, or would like to stop in and see which form is best for you, send us a message, or call the gym!

Thanks for reading and have a great #transformationthursday!

Let's talk multivitamin/mineral supplements!

The consensus seems to be that there is no consensus on whether or not they are necessary or even useful.

I think most experts will agree, however, that taking a multivitamin/mineral would be a wise decision for those who might be at risk for deficiencies.

These include:
1)The elderly who might not be eating enough nutritious food and lack a strong digestive capability.

2)Vegetarians who do not eat meat and dairy, and/or do not rely on whole foods to get their nutrition.

3)Those who enjoy training hard on a regular basis, but do not have the time to eat enough or eat clean.

4)Humans who do not eat a balanced diet

Wait a minute....that sounds like almost everyone on this planet!

In all seriousness, if you eat a very clean, nutrient dense, whole food diet, which includes variety, then you are way ahead of the game. But if you want to make sure nothing is missing, then you might want to add a multivitamin in, juuuust to be sure.

Here are some of the different multivitamin options The Healthy Gym offers for individuals in different situations:

1. For those who eat very well, but just want to make sure they are getting everything:
https://www.bioticscan.com/1161

2. For those who are just starting out, don't eat very well at all and need lots of support:
http://thorneresearch.ca/multi-encap/

3. For those who want a multi that contains isolated nutrients with living plant extracts:
https://www.atplab.com/product/total-defense/?c=243978f8b175

4. For those who don't like pills and would rather take in a liquid:

If you have any questions or would like to come in to see which one fits you best, just drop us a message!

Sending you all great #weekendvibes!
