Yoga. In your PJs. You should try it.

The first thing I did when I got home this evening was put on my PJs. When it came time to lead class, I had no interest in changing into anything else.

So I didn’t. I led my online Yin class anyway, and it turns out my students all had their PJs on too.

You don’t need special clothes or props to practice yoga at home. You need a willingness to try and a desire to do it.

Why do I practice yoga with my future self in mind? Because I want to keep building the strength, flexibility and balance that help me stay independent as I age.

I want to keep walking in the woods. Carry my own groceries. Get down on the floor with my grandkids and get myself back up again.

And yes, I want to feel good now, too. Between sitting at a desk, teaching, Taekwondo and everything else life asks of me, there are plenty of reasons to get on my mat today.

But more and more, I’m thinking about the years ahead. How I want to move through them. What I want to keep doing. And how much I value being able to take care of myself.

I can’t plan for everything. But I can make time to move, build strength, work on my balance, and give my mind a moment to settle.

Some days that’s a full practice. Other days, it’s a few movements and a deep breath.

It all matters to me. Because there’s a lot of life I still want to enjoy.

What’s something you hope you’re still doing at 80?

If we’ve only ever met through a screen, I thought you might like to see things from my perspective.

This little room holds a lot of me. Things I’ve collected, things I’ve made, reminders of what I’ve learned and what I’m still learning.

It’s where I come to figure out what I need. Sometimes that’s movement. Sometimes it’s chanting, a little reading, or just time and space to sit long enough to hear myself think.

And it’s where I get to share what I love with you through my work.

So, welcome to my little corner of the house, here in my little corner of the digital world.

I’m glad you’re here. 🙏

For the moms who feel like they’ve been dragged through a knot-hole lately… I’m right here with you.

The noise, the questions, the touching, the mental list that never seems to get shorter. And then someone asks what’s for supper. 😵‍💫

I dubbed this class Overstimulated Mom Yoga because, honestly, that’s how I was when I showed up to teach it.

This Yin practice gives you time to move slowly, so get out the props, and feel held and supported for a change. It won’t make the demands disappear, but it can give you some space to notice how you’re feeling and take a deep breath.

And if holding the pose for the length of time I suggested feels like too much, adjust. Stay longer, or exit when you need. You’ve got enough demands on your plate without turning yoga into another one.

Want me to guide you through the full class? Comment OVERSTIMULATED and I’ll DM you the link to start your 7-day free trial of AUM@home.

Singing bowls, chanting, moon talk… yup, I’m here for all of it. And if you are too, I think we’re going to get along just fine. ☺️

This new set of singing bowls from The Sound Journey Store arrived in time for this month’s Yin + Sound class, and it’s safe to say I’m a little excited. Getting to share them with you makes it even better.

Join me for class, October 18th, 6:30–8:00pm at Hill Chapel in Spryfield. Want to attend? Send me a message and I’ll DM you the link ✨

Apparently, asking nicely (again) has brought us as far as it can.

Pick up your clothes. Put your things away. Practice your piano. Is your homework done? Why are there dishes in here? I’m like a broken record, I swear. So today, I put it in writing.

There’s a little Yoga in here somewhere too. Saucha, perhaps? Caring for the space we live in, and cleaning up after ourselves. Those things shouldn’t have to land on one persons shoulders. I know mine are done carrying the load.

And yes, I practice taking a breath before I react as often as I remember to. But sometimes, even after the breath, there’s still a memo that needs to be posted.

Take this as today’s Mom Moment for you.

Yes, yoga helped me through my marathon days, and so much more.

I used to be a distance runner. Half marathons, marathons… okay, ONE marathon. And multisport adventure races where we spent hours walking, running, cycling… you get the point.

After my cousin reached out and asked for some advice, I thought, why not just record a Yoga for Runners class or two?

So I did.

You can find the first of this series through the link in my bio.

Even though I’m not running anymore, I’m still really active. And who knows? Maybe I’ll get back into it someday and be glad I kept up with the stretching. 😉

Can you practice yoga without stepping onto a mat?

Yes. Paying attention, being present, and noticing your breath are part of the practice, too.

Before Saturday morning’s flow class, I had my coffee in hand, a blanket around my shoulders, and Mother Nature in full fall colours around me. A little graveyard on the knoll behind me, a river in the distance, and two dogs having the time of their lives. 😆

And I was enjoying being right there in the middle of it.

There would be movement on the mat shortly. But there was also this moment, with the crisp air, warm coffee, and a deep breath I remembered to take.

It’s something I keep coming back to in my teaching and in my own life. Yoga can help us become more aware of how we move, breathe, respond, and enjoy what’s here.

Today, give yourself a moment to notice something you’re glad you didn’t miss.

How do you practice yoga off the mat?

I do it all the time. For me that means noticing when I’m somewhere beautiful and actually letting myself enjoy it.

Settled here on this covered porch with the my newest crochet project on the go. There’s a river beyond the trees, the leaves are changing, and rain is falling on the tin roof.

Every so often, an acorn crashes down from the oak tree and pings off the roof. Mother Nature’s sound bath of sorts.

It’s overcast and gloomy, and absolutely delightful.

My practice helps me recognize these moments. To notice my breath, give my mind a break from planning what’s next, and let myself enjoy where I am.

After the last couple of weeks, this feels pretty lovely.

This is what I mean when I say I teach yoga for life, not just while on the mat. ❤️

Did you know chanting is a kind of yoga practice?

Repeating a mantra gives the mind something to focus on. The sound, the rhythm, the breath. It’s a practice I’ve returned to for years, especially when my mind feels like too much.

Last week, even while I was in the hospital, I found myself repeating a familiar mantra silently in my head. Sometimes with a melody. Sometimes simply through the length of my exhale.

Often, it only helped for a brief moment. But that moment mattered. It gave my mind somewhere to settle when everything else felt overwhelming.

This is the Shanti mantra I shared at the beginning of our Yin class last evening — an invitation to learn and grow together in peace.

I don’t chant to perform. I share it because I know firsthand how soothing this practice can be, and I want you to have the chance to experience it too.

You don’t need a beautiful singing voice to begin. You can listen, hum along, or repeat a mantra quietly to yourself.

Next time you get on your mat, try adding one long, easy Om. Let it last as long as your exhale comfortably allows, then pause.

Notice the sound. Notice what you feel. That’s a place to begin chanting practice.
