October 16th is World Spine Day!

This year’s theme “Spine Health for Life” recognizes that spinal health is fundamental to mobility, independence, and meaningful participation throughout life. This day encourages individuals, communities, healthcare providers, and policymakers to take proactive steps to prevent spinal issues through education, lifestyle adjustments, and workplace ergonomics. By making spinal health a priority, we can enhance mobility, productivity, mental well-being, and overall quality of life.

At Brickyard Health, our chiropractors Dr. D’Arcy and Dr. Brittany are here to help you through all ages and stages of your life! It’s never too early (or late) to be thinking about your “Spine Health for Life”.

World Menopause Month - From Your Pelvic Health Physiotherapists

Menopause affects more than your periods and pelvic health physiotherapy can help with more than your pelvic floor.

During perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes can contribute to changes in:
✨ Bladder control and urgency
✨ Pelvic floor strength and coordination
✨ Vaginal dryness and discomfort
✨ Pain with s*x
✨ Pelvic pressure or prolapse symptoms
✨ Exercise tolerance
✨ Strength, mobility, and confidence with movement
✨ Back, hip, and pelvic pain
✨ Musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause

Pelvic health physiotherapists can help you understand these changes and address the things that are affecting you, and create an individualized plan to help you keep doing the things you love!

Pelvic and bladder symptoms don’t have to be accepted as “part of getting older”.

This Menopause Month, let’s talk more openly about pelvic health.

September is Concussion Awareness Month 🧠

Concussions come with long term side effects and it’s important to get them checked out if they’ve been going on for too long without any signs of improvement (especially if you’ve had multiple concussions).

When a person experiences a concussion, it is important to assess the extent of the injury and impairment.

Some common symptoms to look out for:
- Loss of consciousness (> 90% of concussions do not result in loss of consciousness!)
- Headache or pressure in the head
- Neck pain or whiplash
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Blurred or distorted vision
- Balance problems
- Feeling tired/fatigued/lethargic
- Feeling “foggy” or not thinking clearly
- Not feeling right or feeling off
- More emotional
- Feeling sad, upset or angry
- Nervousness or anxiety
- Sensitivity to light or noise
- Difficulty concentrating
- Difficulty reading or working at a computer
- Difficulty remembering or concentrating
- Confusion
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Sleeping more or sleeping less
- Irritability

At Brickyard Health, we have many practitioners who have additional training in concussion management and treatment. In our experience, concussion management does well with a multidisciplinary approach.

🔹 Alexa Starratt (Physio) is trained to help rehabilitate concussion symptoms

🔹 Brittany Fraser (Chiropractor) treats concussion symptoms and whiplash through manual therapy and acupuncture

🔹 Matthew Wadden (RMT) is trained in RAPID NeuroFascial Reset

🔹 Andrea McCulloch (Osteopath) does cranial work for concussion (Andrea specializes in youth osteopathy)

🔹 Erin Balodis (Naturopathic Doctor) uses Naturopathic therapies and Peri-neural therapy for concussions.
