Chronic fatigue syndrome is characterized by persistent fatigue. The fatigue or tiredness goes on for 6 months or even longer, limiting a person’s ability to participate in normal everyday activities.

The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is yet to be discovered but there are theories linking it to impairment of immune system and psychological stress, among others.

There is no specific test to diagnose CFS so you may need to undergo various exams in order for other possible health issues to be ruled out. Treatment is hence directed to the symptoms that the patient experiences.

May is National Physiotherapy Month, celebrating the impact of physiotherapy on improving quality of life and promoting wellness!

Physiotherapy has a rich history, stemming from the need to rehabilitate injured soldiers during World War I. Today, it remains a crucial element of healthcare, focusing on pain relief, injury recovery, and preventive care. At 121 Wellness, our approach to pain relief through physiotherapy is distinctive. We specialize in addressing persistent neck pain, back pain, and orthopedic disorders, providing tailored solutions for both treatment and prevention.

Our experienced physiotherapists conduct thorough evaluations to pinpoint the root of your discomfort and offer clear, understandable explanations. You may not think that nutrition is as important for your mental health as it is for your physical health, but it’s true! With the stigma around mental illness slowly dissipating, more and more people are opening up about their struggles with mental health. As someone who has experienced mental illness myself, the connection between nutrition and mental health has always fascinated me.

For example, many mental health conditions can cause unplanned weight change, low appetite, and low motivation to prepare food. Different psychiatric medications can also cause fluctuations in appetite and eating habits. Furthermore, food insecurity and mental illness often go hand-in-hand, so it is important for food insecure individuals to have access to affordable and healthy foods.

Some key nutrients to pay attention to for your mental health are shared in our blog. Click the link to read about them.

Can physiotherapy help me after a vehicle accident?

If you have unfortunately been involved in a motor vehicle accident and have sustained injuries as a result, physiotherapy treatment is often recommended.

What to expect after your accident?

Your physiotherapist will do an assessment. This includes getting details regarding your accident injuries, where you’re experiencing pain, the impact on your life post-accident, and treatment goals. After this conversation, your physiotherapist will guide you through movements and do tests to determine the best approach to recovery.

To learn more about how physiotherapy can help after a vehicle accident, read our blog that is attached below.

Should I see a psychologist after my motor vehicle accident?

A motor vehicle accident is a traumatic event and can instantly change our lives in a variety of ways including severely impact our mental health. If you answer yes to any of these questions than it is worthwhile to discuss with your healthcare team how a Psychologist can help:

Are you finding yourself reliving or thinking about the accident on a regular basis?
Are you feeling anxious about returning to driving or returning to work/daily activities?
Are you angry that you were in a motor vehicle accident?
Have you had pain as a result of your accident for over 3 months?

Along with our team of physiotherapist who can help, we have a registered psychologist on the team. The 121 Wellness teams works together across the different disciplines to provide you with the best treatment plan possible. Call to book a consultation.
