Physiotherapy plays an important role in helping people safely and confidently return to school, work, sport and everyday activities following a concussion. Modern concussion rehabilitation is not simply about rest—it is active and individualized.
Your physiotherapist can assess symptoms, movement, balance, vision, neck function and exercise tolerance, then develop a progressive rehabilitation program. This may include graded aerobic exercise, balance and coordination training, neck and vestibular exercises, and sport- or work-specific activities. Activity is gradually increased based on how the person responds, with the goal of rebuilding tolerance and confidence without unnecessarily prolonging recovery.
Physiotherapists can also help guide a stepwise return to school, work and sport, identifying when modifications are needed and progressively increasing physical and cognitive demands. The goal is not simply to wait for symptoms to disappear, but to actively restore function and safely return people to the activities that matter to them.
