Our team of counsellors has knowledge and training and experience.

However, none of that makes us omniscient and none of that makes us the expert on you!

You (the other person on the sofa) have spent a lifetime living inside yourself. You know what it’s like for you more than anyone else.

Sometimes we notice something our clients haven't noticed yet.

Sometimes our clients tell us we missed something or correct us.

We aren’t prescriptive, we are collaborative. We bring experience and theories and you bring yourself. Together we find our way to support you to getting where you hope to be.

💚 You got this

October 10 was World Mental Health Day, and the 2026 theme centres lived experience: “𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱: 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.”

Clinical training gives us frameworks and research gives us information.

However, experience gives us perspective.

We don't have to choose between professional knowledge and lived experience.

The best work happens when both are allowed into the room.

Rest isn't a reward. It's regulation. 🤍

Your nervous system isn't built to run on empty. Taking a pause isn't laziness, it's how your body finds its way back to steady.

At Healing Spaces (Kamloops + North Van + virtual across BC), we take a 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 approach that makes room for nervous system awareness—without pathologising.

Something that feels barely noticeable to one nervous system might feel significant to another.
WHY?
Our nervous systems don't all starting from the same place, nor do they experience the same things in our lifetimes.

Neurodivergence, sensitivity, trauma, past experiences, and the ways we’ve learned to stay safe can all shape how our systems notice and respond to what’s happening around us.

For some of us, the nervous system has learned to pay very close attention:
What changed?
Is something wrong?
Am I safe here?
What does that tone mean?

That hyper-attunement can be protective. It can also mean that experiences other people perceive as mild can have a very real and significant impact on our system.

Can we start asking, “What is my nervous system noticing — and what might it need?”

October is ADHD Awareness Month.

So let's start with something bigger than attention.

ADHD can shape how someone initiates tasks, experiences time, regulates attention, remembers information, shifts between activities and manages everyday demands.

And many ADHDers have spent years interpreting those differences as personal failures.

Lazy.

Disorganised.

Too much.

Not trying hard enough.

Bad at adulting.

The neuroaffirming shift isn't pretending ADHD never creates difficulty.

It's recognizing the difficulty 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Because there's a huge difference between:

"𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵? "

and

“𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴?”

That difference matters.

Change doesn't start with fixing yourself.
It starts with meeting yourself as you are, with a little more kindness and a little less pressure. 💚

On Sept 30, we acknowledge Truth & Reconciliation Day with care and humility.

We believe nervous system safety and compassionate presence matter—especially when history brings up emotion.

Healing is not only personal. It’s relational, communal, and grounded in respect.

If you need support processing difficult feelings, we’re here.

Two people can move through the same experience and have very different responses to it.

Our nervous systems don’t experience the world in the same way because they carry our history, our neurotype, and our sensory sensitivity. They hold what we’ve experienced, survived, adapted to and how much support we’ve had. What our systems have learned they need to notice in order to keep us safe.

For some neurodivergent, sensitive, or trauma-impacted nervous systems, the volume is simply turned up and we might notice more, feel more or track more. Sometimes this means that something that seems “small” from the outside lands very differently on the inside because we experience things deeply.

Can we ask- “What makes this feel so significant to my system?”
Does your nervous system tend to notice everything? What have you learned about yours?

That’s a much kinder place to begin. 💚
