It’s common knowledge that people slow down as they age, older adults find it difficult to maintain mobility. Daily activities like standing up from a chair and getting in and out of bed become increasingly difficult. These limitations are often caused by a decline in muscle strength and flexibility. Flexibility is the ability of the muscles and tendons to lengthen and stretch in response to movement and allow a joint to move through its range of motion. A good stretching program is important to incorporate into your daily routine to help maintain flexibility. Improving your flexibility will benefit you in the following ways:

- Reduces Arthritis, Low Back Pain & Improves Posture
- Maintain Good Balance, Reduce the Risk of Falling and Injuries
- Increases Energy Levels and Blood Flow

Aside from simple stretches, older adults can do tai chi, water therapy, and yoga too. These activities are much more exciting than simple stretches.

The major causes of anxiety in the elderly are not surprising: older adults are faced with their own mortality, they have physical illnesses and decreased mobility, and their independence is often reduced to some degree. Other common causes of anxiety include chronic illnesses, trouble sleeping, and side effects from medication, all of which are commonly experienced by seniors.

Make sure they have a network of social support in place.

Routines provide a predictable daily schedule, and this predictability can be calming.

Physical exercise has also been proven to help anxiety sufferers.

Check in on them – even just a phone call.

There is evidence that anti-anxiety medications can be very useful for seniors, while a smaller part of the senior population may respond positively to therapy.

Involve your elderly loved one in meaningful conversation and activities that reduce boredom and anxiety/stress as well.

#caregiver_benefits

The primary advantage to having a caregiver at home is that being at home is simply more comfortable for most people than being in an unfamiliar place. Being surrounded by their photographs, books, lifetime memories; with everything is in its place. Studies have proven this to be an effective emotional healer. Improving someone’s quality of life is the goal of caregiving. Depending on the situation this can take many aspects, from maximum functional assistance to companionship and socialization.
