Are you considering enrolling in HLTH 315 Theory and Practice of Health Behaviour Change for this Fall term? If so, please see the note below from the course instructor Dr. Amy Latimer-Cheung.

Dear HLTH 315 enthusiasts,

We are hard at work developing your HLTH 315 - Theory and Practice of Health Behaviour Change course for the fall. We need your input.

The course will include a series of case studies. The purpose of these case studies is for you to learn about best practices for changing these behaviours in diverse populations. The goal is for you to learn how to change the health behaviour of persons who need to make change. The focus is not on your own personal health behaviours, it is on the behaviour of others. You will work on these case studies for 2-3 weeks. We want to make sure they are of interest to you. Please complete the survey at the link below to let us know what health behaviours and population segments are of particular interest. Please respond by Friday July 31st.

Hey guys! This season the Health Studies DSC has teamed up with PHEKSA (Physical Health Education and Kinesiology Student Association) to fundraise for Tree of Hope.

Tree of Hope is a program run through Family and Child Services of Frontenac, Lennox, and Addington (facsfla) which is a children’s aid society. The Tree of Hope gives low-income families in Kingston presents for the holiday season. Kids in the Kingston community really rely on this program and our support throughout the holidays.

Last year PHEKSA raised $400 and this year we hope to raise even more! If you would like to donate, please click on the gofundme link posted below. Any donation is much appreciated 💙

Are you interested in getting involved in healthcare research at Queen's related to patient safety and quality improvement (QI)? Are you interested in learning about the QI process? QIPEP, a program run through the Queen’s School of Medicine, is currently recruiting undergraduate students from the Faculty of Health Sciences to join interdisciplinary teams with medical students.

Upon acceptance to the program, students are matched to existing QI research projects through Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) based on interest, their academic background and previous training. Interdisciplinary teams are then supervised by a Faculty of Health Sciences clinician with expertise in patient safety and/or quality improvement research. This program begins in September 2019 and runs until April 2020.

We have diverse projects ranging from those in Interventional Cardiology to those in Public Health. This program also includes didactic sessions to equip all students with QI competencies to apply to their project and careers in healthcare.

Applications are due July 31st, 2019. Please forward any questions to [email protected]

We are pleased to invite you to the 3rd annual Jacalyn Duffin Health and Humanities Conference. The Jacalyn Duffin Health and Humanities Conference aims to create a space where learners and educators of all disciplines can discuss the intersections of health, medicine, and the arts and humanities. This year’s conference theme is “Sensations and The Sensational.” Health, disease, wellness, and illness are often accompanied by physiological and psychological sensations that serve as clues to our physical and mental status. What one person perceives as a mild sensation, another may perceive as a life-altering experience – something sensational. Join us on January 23, 2021 as we explore how our perceptions of our bodies’ sensations are created and shaped by the world around us, influencing our interactions with others and the environment.
