My new answer when students ask if they have to practice their scales before their songs…. 😂

Yes!!! Scales, chords, arpeggios, etc build the foundation for all musical genres. That 10 minutes a day saves so many minutes in learning new repertoire!

Do you recognize this chromatic passage of Fur Elise?

DUETS!!

Why are these so good for students?!

1. Duets encourage steady playing! In order to stay in time with the duet partner, the student must count steadily, without speeding or slowing the tempo!
2. Dividing attention! It's not as easy as Eli makes it look to stay focused on your own line, while still hearing your partner's music!
3. Harmonies: As students advance they learn how to create duet parts for their melodies. Adding chords or bass notes to the melody is a process called harmonizing!

Congrats to Eli for mastering this duet at his 3rd lesson of the year!

A reminder that tomorrow is National Truth and Reconciliation Day & Orange Shirt Day.

We encourage all students to wear orange as a way to honor residential school survivors and remember the children who never returned home.

Music is a medicine that connects us, heals us, and carries stories across generations. Let us commit to listening to, learning from, and amplifying indigenous voices in true efforts towards reconciliation.

Hands Together for Emma, as she completed her SECOND lesson today and already can play Old MacDonald!

What does this classic song teach kiddos?

The black keys are laid out in groups of 2 and 3. Notice her RH on a group of 3 black keys, and her LH on a group of 2 black keys! This later becomes a visual guide for naming the white keys! In a couple more lessons, she will explore how C is the white key under the 2 black key group, and F is the white key under the 3 black key group!

Here's to a super fun year of learning! Great way to start things off, Emma!

These three sisters have been rocking our Intro to Ukulele course! They’ve explored notes within the C scale, primary chords, and various strum patterns, all while learning to play as a group! Ukulele is such a fun and rewarding instrument! Hands Together for the sisters!! 🎶 👏
