Four voices. One lesson.

Fear of failure is one of the biggest things standing between many communities and real wealth-building.

Leo, Co-Founder of Bitcoin Bay. Mo Hameed, Melissa Allen, Founder of Capital M Ventures. Jelani Clarke, Immunologist. Four different paths. One shared fear. They tried anyway.

Real businesses. Real funds. Real research. None of it needed to start perfect.

This is the kind of lesson we exist to capture and pass on.

What's the thing you're sitting on because of fear?

Tell us in the comments. Then go start it.

Two women. One industry that wasn't built for them.

Web3 and crypto spaces weren't built with women in the room. Natalia Ameline and Elena Sinelnikova built cryptochicks.ca instead.

A real community now exists where there wasn't one. That's the actual measure of it.

Recorded at the Blockchain Futurist Conference, Toronto. Full interview on YouTube, link in bio.

Save this. Then tell us, what's a space you had to build yourself because the one you needed didn't exist yet?

Two days. One room. The right people showed up.

Hope Engel, Indigenous Poets Society, opened it with a land acknowledgment. Rochester got the room moving. Colleen James, the first Black person elected to Waterloo Regional Council, spoke. Master T hosted Day 2 and brought a keynote. Ramsay Almighty walked the room through Web3 and how to actually set up a wallet. Chu closed it out as the first-ever Adele Murray Award winner.

In between: two full days on IP, content creation, podcasting, marketing, and distribution, real conversations on camera with Geraldine Stafford and Ivan Evidente, hosted by our founder, Mark.

"I think winning the award has affected the journey by giving confidence." Chu said that, right after Solitair, Master T, and our founder shook her hand on that stage.

None of it happens without a room full of people. Thank you to OCADU, Region of Waterloo Upstream Fund, KPL, Zannes Law, Heffner & Common studios and Black Exposed, DCC Agency & 98.5FM CKWR for being part of that room.

Save this. Then tell us, who's someone that showed up for you at exactly the right moment?

Another inspirational quote isn't what's missing.

"Keep going." "You've got this." BIPOC creatives building alone have heard all of it already. What they don't have enough of is people who'll actually answer when they ask a real question.

So we built a moderated Discord. Mentorship, feedback, collaboration. Free, and it's live right now, not a someday project.

Running a real community takes real people. That's where volunteers come in.

Save this. Then tell us, what's a moment someone actually showed up for you when you needed it, not just cheered you on?

Talent isn't the gap. Access is.

Chudear Oyual won the first Adele Murray Award in 2023. Two other finalists said the same thing in their own words.

Peter Pearse-Elosia: "There aren't enough platforms that have been created to support the artists."

Cass The Human: "The Adele Murray Award actually inspired me to want to do this."

BIPOC entrepreneurs and artists build real things every day, with none of the access that makes it easier. We built one award to close part of that gap. It's still just one.

Save this. Then tell us, what's a platform or opportunity you wish existed when you were starting out?

We just went live. Swipe to see what access is. Storytelling, digital literacy, and community programming built for people 3 years of showing up looks like 🔑

THE DOPE CONTENT exists because representation isn't the finish line, who've been counted out of rooms they already belong in.

10+ workshops. 3 events, including a 2-day conference. Multiple podcast series. All of it now in one place: thedopecontent.com (link in bio).

We're growing, and we're looking for volunteers and board members ready to help us reach more of the community.

Save this to come back to if you can't visit the website now!

Then tell us: what's a moment someone gave you a real chance, and what did you do with it?

What did fear almost talk you out of?

Recorded in Toronto, 2023. Still true in 2026: it's ok to fail.

3 years ago at the Blockchain Futurist Conference, this hit different. Fear of failure is the thing that keeps us out of rooms we already belong in.

He shared stages with The Clash and Frank Zappa. Most people at Waterloo Park had no idea. 🎤

Errol Blackwood performed at Waterloo Park this Canada Day, and we caught up with him after to talk about longevity in music.

In 1980, he co-founded Messenjah in Kitchener, Ontario. As lead vocalist and bassist, he helped release the band's albums under WEA, Warner's label group in Canada. Messenjah toured across Canada and the U.S., performed at Reggae Sunsplash, and shared stages with Hugh Masekela, The Clash, and Frank Zappa.

He went solo in the mid-80s and kept releasing music for decades after, earning a Juno nomination along the way.

Decades later, he's still performing live. Still telling the story.

What's kept you showing up for something long after most people would've stopped?

Tell us below. 👇

Music has a way of bringing people together, and that was on full display at the Canada Day Community Picnic in Waterloo Park.

We had the opportunity to sit down with KW artist Dianne James following her performance with Errol Blackwood and the Injahband to talk about music, community, and her journey as a performer.

This conversation is part of our commitment at BIPOC Access to documenting the stories and lived experiences of artists who continue to contribute to the cultural fabric of our communities.

If you've seen Dianne James perform, what stands out to you about her music or stage presence? We'd love to hear your thoughts below.

Watch the interview, join the conversation, and explore more stories through the BIPOC Access link in our bio.

Thousands sang his lyrics back to him at Waterloo Park. Most of them had no idea what came before it. ⏬

Years before "Summertime in the Loo" blew up, AJ was already showing up. Volunteering. Supporting BIPOC CREATE. Connecting with BIPOC ACCESS. No cameras. No crowd. No guarantee any of it would lead anywhere.

That's the part that gets skipped in every viral story. Everyone sees the moment. Almost no one sees the years before it that made the moment possible.

If you're doing the work right now with no audience watching, no traction, no proof it's going anywhere yet: this is what it looks like on the other side of that.

What's something you kept showing up for before anyone noticed? Tell us below. ⏬
